Unfortunately it also means Newcastle are now moving closer to us. Hard to root for Alan Pardew really. Would've taken a draw.

Never. United losing at home to Newcastle is fucking hilarious ! Newcastle will not challenge the Top 4 so hardly an issue.

well considering under rodgers we've taken something like 14 points for a possible 45 against the big teams you can't be too confident . In such a tight season it's an area we really need to improve .

Yeah I agree. For 2013 in the league, its P7 W2 D3 L2 F11 A12. 9 out of 21 points.
13/1/2013 Manchester United 2-1 Liverpool
31/1/2013 Arsenal 2-2 Liverpool
4/2/2013 Manchester City 2-2 Liverpool
11/3/2013 Liverpool 3-2 Tottenham Hotspur
21/4/2013 Liverpool 2-2 Chelsea
1/9/2013 Liverpool 1-0 Manchester United
3/11/2013 Arsenal 2-0 Liverpool

Rodger's full record against top sides (Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea & Tottenham) in all competitions since taking over is P13 W2 D5 L6 F16 A22. 11 points out of 36 points + 1 cup tie knockout.

That's OTT. We're good enough to come away from those games with some of the points and I reckon we should expect it of ourselves.

Ditto.

Spurs - Draw (no SG, Enrique or Studge)
Cardiff - Win
City - Lose
Chelsea - Draw

Tough period, 5/12 points I would be satisfied with as we are not giving our realistic rivals much .. anything more would be a major boost.

I don't think you can complain too much about that record (2-3-2) as it means we gave as good as we got. Hopefully we'll improve on that with home wins against all of the other Top 6 regardless on what we do away.

I'm hoping we get at least 6 points from these 4 games while staying undefeated in this stretch. I think the second part is as important as the first, because then we'll be denying our direct rivals points advantages over us. Beat Cardiff plus snatch 3 away draws is okay with me.

I'll be happy with 5 points tbh. We're missing 3 first team players and are playing 3 away games. It sets us up nicely for a great finish though as we play every top side at home after Christmas.

Hahaha, sneaky oblique reference to facing "not a top, top side" Man United away then. 🙂

Its strange how quickly things change in football. Everton looked like shite right before transfer deadline day. 2 loan signings later they look pretty good. They were good today but I think they're squad is to thin to make the top 4. If Lukaku gets injured they're fucked.

I think if Jagielka was to get injured it would hurt them. When was the last time Everton went to Arsenal and dominated possession though? Martinez has them playing with absolutely no fear. I think Everton are looking excellent, as much as it pains me to say it.

I can about one thing, staying in the top four after the next four games, if we remain there after those games, we have a very good chance of finishing there.

5 points from them 3 aways would be bloody brilliant!!

I'd take 5 points now.

Both because it's a good total & it'd mean we hadn't been beaten.

In the same manner, I'd take three draws over one win & two losses.

I see Paddy Barclay is keeping his usual sense of perspective:

Everton passed like Barcelona (where, at his current rate of progress, Martinez might end up), keeping the ball out of the reach of Arsene Wenger’s players. At all times they worked like Borussia Dortmund.

Just saw Vitesse's weekend result. A 6-2 thrashing of PSV away at Philips Stadion. 3 of their goals were scored in the last 5 mins + injury time as PSV chased for an equalizer after pulling back the scoreline to 3-2 at 84th min. They've won 5 and drew 1 of their last 6 league matches. Top of the table. Atsu, Piazon and van Aanholt were the Chelsea loanees in their lineup. These trio were involved in all 6 goals (2 goals scored and 5 assisted). KaKuta also came on as a sub.

Vitesse are really benefitting from the link-up with Chelsea! 😵
