What constitutes a red card these days?

Two players slide in to win a ball.
one of them makes contact with the ball.
The one that does gets sent off.
Can anyone familiar with the laws of football explain this to me?

It was an ugly an unnecessary challenge by Shelvey imo.
Still think the red card was warranted.

I'll bite.

I don't think it was a red card because one of his feet was on the ground and away from the point of contact when he made the challenge. I feel the other player made the more dangerous tackle because both feet were off the ground and studs were pointing at the liverpool players ankles, he was not in control of the challenge and could have injured Shelvey.

Evans has a bad touch giving Jonjo a sniff.. when evans does his red card challenge jonjo makes his move blocking the ball. Rough move from Jonjo? Probably.. but all he does is blocking the ball... the evans one however...

At first glance I thought a dangerous tackle by Jonjo. The replay clealry shows both made contact witht he ball at the exact same time but that Jonjo's contact was more powerful, winning the ball but bending Evan's foot back at the same time. It was never a yellow card never mind a red - I sincerley hope we put everything behind an appeal.

The referee was absolutely atrocious today, unless your name is Ferguson, then he instead played a perfect game.

You really are a detached fucking clown.
Thanks again mod.
I take it that Shelvey never touched Evans.
To me Evans two footed challenge was on the ball similar to the infamous one Johnson did last season, was that a red card?
Shelvey came from an angle got some of the ball and the player, with studs showing. To me it's a red.

Modo, doesn't matter what Johnson did last season.
What's the law about two footed tackles?
What's the law about one footed tackles that gets the ball?
Which tackle was a more obvious red reading the letter of the law?

Why is it that none of the match reports I've read about the game doesn't mention that it wasn't a red card?
Or a conspiracy or whatever?

Just a thought.

He was stupid. He gave the ref a decision to make. And considering everyone agrees he's a shit ref, that's not a good idea. But nevermind, at least he said something funny to Fergie eh?

I have to be honest and say I wouldnt argue with the red for Shelvey. But I'd like to know why Evans and VP didnt receive the same treatment. If Halsey watches the video of that match and is honest with himself, then he will say that he got some very important decisions wrong.

Rob Harris@RobHarris
Fergie on exchange with Shelvey: "He was trying to blame me...once he looks at it he can apologise if he likes. I think he should do that"

What about the trailing leg that caught Evans? Is it something the ref should disregard?
Why did Spearing get sent off last season? Two footed challenge but he got the ball.

It's funny how some here perceive that I and Mark Halsey are the only ones in the world who thought it was a red card. Everyone else either hates Liverpool or is an idiot.

Modo and fergie up the tree, etc.

Fergies comments there sum up how much of a corrupt, power hungry twat he is.

You just answered you own question, trailing leg, ergo not a two footed challenge. Duh. Manc sympathising cunt.

I'm not really sure whether it was a red card or not (who knows these days? etc) but surely the much more important point is that it was no worse than Evans's, so we shouldn't have been a man down either way.
