I have been one of those who has been from the start one of Andy's harshest critics given we paid £35M for this guy. However, the signs in recent games - he has been on an upward curve of improvement BUT today - he became what we all hoped he would be when we bought him. I am so happy for him and I really hope he goes into next season with that same attitude he showed today. What he did with his feet in the penalty box to score that goal is something I never thought he was capable of, and the way he did it was no accident - FANTASTIC !!! take heart everyone - we may have got the big time player who does not go missing in big games.

I learned nothing from this game. Pretty much everything that has been said about the team, the players, the tactics and the management came to fruition.
Here I go again, being a negative Nancy but that's my impression of the game.
I like how Suarez just walked off after the game, some might see him as a sore loser.
In my eyes he's a fucking winner.

I too was a critic of Carroll. He looked unfit and disinterested for the first three quarters of the season. But, he seems to be a player who needs games to get into his groove. He plays well and then he's dropped. That is one of my mine gripes with Kenny. Suarez isn't a lone front man, he needs a partner, his partner plays well but then gets shoved on the bench. I really think Kenny should start with Andy and Luis up front.

But do you also think that if Andy plays we also need Downing playing for us ? - You are right though about Suarez not being a lone front man, but my other worry about him is that he has been quiet in both of the finals.

I was a little disappointed in Suarez's performance today tbh.

I know he was isolated for much of the game but when he did get it, his first touch and trickery was off.

Yes his first touch was off quite a bit today, I recall him putting us in shit on two occasions with stray passes that were simple to make.

Yup, it's pretty difficult to trick 4 defenders.

Did you see how he raised his game when Carroll came on. He suddenly found space.

In Kenny's defence, the 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation was the one he used at Chelsea earlier in the season when we beat them 2-1.

Wasn't surprised he went with it again and tried to match Chelsea up. I was kinda surprised to see Downing start though(in that formation) as Kuyt or Maxi are clearly more suited to that system.

2 of my biggest criticisms of our tactics.

1. Fuck all mobility, too static all the time

2. Suarez isolated up top.

Still, for me I'm not going to criticise anymore. Kenny is here and the season is now no more than glorified exhibitions.

I'm content and looking forward to the euros

I'm on my way to a hangover that's my gift from the finals. Going to see Jim Jefferies to laugh it all away.

probably the best Ive seen Carroll play in a red shirt, thats a positive I suppose but its hard to be cheerful after a game like that, it was like the final nail in the coffin, this is the worst Chelsea team in a decade and they were miles better than us. Serious questions need to be asked about the direction this club is going in the summer

The thing is - they were shite - and the only reason they beat us is becuase of two stray balls in midfield that put them into scoring positions. The first half was really boring and cagey - we were kind of containing them without actually playing ANY football. After Carol came on - they did not get a look-in as far as I could see - we just dominated them. I think we probably had the ball 80% to their 20% in the final 30 minutes. They were really poor !!!

Seriously ?!?!

They had the first 15 mins of each half, the rest was ours and for the last 30 of the 90 it was wave after wave of Red. Which match did you watch FFS.

Agree.

I've been a major critic of Carroll ..... but in the last 3-4 matches he's stepped up about 3 gears and if he plays like that week in week out next season (with better midfielders around SG) then I will have to eat my hat.

For the last half an hour granted we pressed hard but it was inevitable that they would drop back and try to hold their advantage being 2 goals ahead. We only started playing when the game was lost, when it was in the balance we made it far far too easy for them, so if they were shit, then how exactly did they beat us quite comfortably

Actually it seemed to me that they dropped back after scoring the first. They got 2 goals from defensive errors on our part. Other than the first 10 mins or so, Chelsea didn't play any football at all.

They didn't. We gifted them two goals .. did they even have another shot on target ? Don't think so but may be wrong. We should have run them over in the last 30 mins. They were shite and we should have had that match .. as we've had their number all season and hopefully again on Tuesday.
