Winter transfers

Its A Trap GIF

Mohamed Salah is scheduled to return to the Liverpool squad this week after Egypt’s Africa Cup of Nations campaign, with his pre-tournament outburst against Arne Slot dictating that no one seems to be quite sure whether this is the start of a long goodbye, in which he will leave before next season.

Reinforcements on the right would be a priority then
, especially if, as seems likely given he barely plays, Federico Chiesa departs after the end of the campaign.

If Jeremie Frimpong is earmarked for one of those two slots, then Liverpool surely require a right back.

==========

Should Konaté leave on a free transfer, are two new centre backs needed allowing for the reluctance to give Joe Gomez minutes which is, in part, due to his fitness issues? Are two necessary regardless?

==========

Is the current midfield ready to push to reclaim the title next season or does it need strengthening? Will Curtis Jones, who had been attracting interest from Tottenham Hotspur, feel it is time to be more of a guaranteed starter somewhere?

==========

Kostas Tsimikas is due to return from a loan spell with Roma and may become back-up to Milos Kerkez if Robertson departs when his contract expires in five months. But that is not a long-term solution. Like Gomez and Virgil Van Dijk, Tsimikas’ contract is up in 2027.

==========

And that is before we get to the future of Slot — who heard the final whistle on Saturday followed by boos — sporting director Richard Hughes and the CEO of football for Liverpool owner Fenway Sports Group, Michael Edwards. They all have 18 months left to run on their contracts.

I don't know what netball or tiddlywinks are, but what I do know is that Jones is shite.

You got me 😅. That's how I learned what an endothermic reaction is. Or isn't...

I wish I had everyone's confidence, but the cunt couldn't maintain cardio when striking.

It's gonna be graelish big fish small pond scenario
Except the 'small pond' is the PL where he's now a proven striker. Anyone doubting this needs to go and look at his compilation again. And yes I know it's a different style of play but we should be making more chances for him than Newcastle, not less. A good player doesn't become ineffective regardless of the system. I can see Isak being very effective under Xabi.

This reminds me of Wirtz and the comments by some on here that he's only a BL player who's not good enough for the PL (not you, I know you were/are pro-Wirtz). Those knockers are choking on their words now, gone silent.

I've every confidence Isak will prove to be a very good striker next season, it's just a fucking shame that he should acquire such a dire injury to set both him and the team back.

There's lots of players who move teams in the PL and struggle to replicate their previous clubs form. It's not unheard of

Tammy Abraham going on loan to villa

Wouldn't hate him as a backup for 6 months. We know Hugo is going to get injured and we know gakpo is shite

Villa are looking at Mateta as negotiations for Abraham are difficult. Guessand might move to Palace if it goes through according to Ornstein.

Surprised the negotiations are difficult. Turkish clubs are usually so amenable/sarcasm

On Marc Guehi from the Athletic.

“Talk of Guehi only costing £20m is disingenuous. Sources familiar with the deal, speaking anonymously to protect relationships, have told The Athletic that City paid Guehi’s agents a significant commission and that the player’s wage demands were understood to be around £300,000 per week. Over the course of a five-and-a-half year contract that represents an outlay on salary alone of £85.8m. (City say Guehi’s wages are significantly lower than that).

Liverpool didn’t view that overall package as a smart market opportunity, given the club’s self-sustaining business model. It would have proved problematic in terms of their wage structure at a time when sporting director Richard Hughes is trying to negotiate a number of contract renewals.

The reality is that if Guehi had really wanted to play for Liverpool, he could have just sat tight until the summer. Instead, his head was turned by the opportunity and the riches on offer at City.

He was never going to be a panacea for the Merseyside club’s current ills, but he would have provided a real injection of quality in a department where Slot is worryingly light.

When you take the emotion out of it and look at the numbers, there’s logic behind Liverpool’s decision not to rival City for Guehi’s services.”

Quinten Timber to Marseille for 4,5 mill €. 4,5 mill!
Surely we could have used him in a midfield role and as an option at RB. 24 years old and 6 months left on his deal.

Sell Endo and sign Timber. Missed market opportunity.

Can't blame Guehi, tbh. Both clubs offer chance at silverware but one offers double the wage packet?

Unless you're a childhood supporter of one club, it's not that tough to understand.

Yisa Alao, 17 year old left back from Sheffield Wed who we have been trying to sign seems to have chosen Chelsea. Can’t for the love of God understand why a young player would love there to be stockpiled in their youth system and sold in a few years time

It's irritating, but their revolving door of youth at the very least gets them exposure and they tend to end up at a decent level.

Our ones mostly rot and then go to a very low level. Only last batch seemed to get anywhere (Morton, koumas, mcconnell) because klopp actually tried playing them

Chelsea is actually a great place for young players to go imo. They are pretty open about training then well and selling them on for profit.

Also, let's be honest, some of these lads will talk to each other. I can't imagine nyoni, Rio and mall extolling the virtues of slot

Morton plays for Lyon, one of the top teams in France. Not everyone ends up at the top four in the premier league. Very few.
