Xabi Xabi la vie

Alonso's achievements with Leverkusen are impressive. My only concern is that Leverkusen were known for last-minute winners. I believe they scored 15 goals after 90 minutes in all competitions that year and more than 30 goals after 80 minutes.

That is indeed impressive and can be shown as evidence of a "never say die" spirit. But often those unusually high stats don't recur. We see that, with Slot, a go-for-broke attack after 80 minutes can be neutralized over time by better teams.

His team was an underdog though, achieving pretty much nothing before he arrived. So makes sense that his players had to push like hell to get those results. I also remember Klopp's Liverpool team getting tons of last gasp goals in seasons gone by, so not really worried.
Slot just doesn't seem to be able to ignite the fire in our players. It's a shame but I think he needs to go.

Xabi may have made some mistakes at Real - but I think that is a good thing as he will learn from that and not at any detriment to us.

If we are now waiting until the summer, I'd also wonder if we are eyeing up any International managers, although I have the same reservations I have made before that i'd expect a challenge from their side around picking up a squad that needs to compete on four fronts.
