Nah, this our strongest squad in the last 20 years (not the strongest team, that was obviously last season with Suarez). With players like Henderson, Lallana, Sterling, Sturridge, Moreno, Coutinho, Lovren, Skrtel, Allen, Markovic, Flanagan, Manquillo, etc we should be challenging for the title again this season but we've been let down by our inability to address the DM situation, our abysmal back-up to our main striker and a dogy goalkeeper.

If Rodgers loses his job the incoming manager will have a lot to work with.

I'd add consistently poor displays by the back four to that charge sheet. Agree otherwise, though - there is talent in that squad. The problem is not lack of talent but criminal underperformance.

Agreed. And what an abysmal thread title.

I think people are being more than a little harsh on Horrenderson.

He suits last seasons system perfectly, where he can sit in the middle and constantly press and close down the opposition and arriving late in the box - That works to his strengths.

Where he fails is he's not quite good enough in an attacking sense.

Playing him out wide doesn't do him any justice either.

Unfortunately, because we've changed the system this year, he's kinda being shoehorned into the team in roles he's I'll-suited for.

Henderson's fine and can be a really good, long term player for us; as stated by many he needs flair around him. Note the number of excellent passes, assists and goals he notched up last season. That sort of ability and talent doesn't simply desert you - it's still there and he can make it count.

That said he's an enigma at the moment; utter dross for 98% of every match but pops up with assists or a goal here and there. I don't think he's doing anywhere near enough to justify his presence on the pitch at the moment. Even tonight he misplaced countless passes, lost possession, mis-controlled or showed a poor first touch which immediately had him in trouble.

His industry is what saves him in these instances but he's not actually making the same impact in this respect now either. I wouldn't have him on the pitch at the moment - at least not to start. Sterling, Gerrard, Lallana, Coutinho and Markovic should be the front 5 at the moment IMO. Lucas in behind them with Moreno and Manquillo filling out the back 4.

Our forward third looked the best it's been this season; the movement was excellent and this is what Bournemouth found the hardest to cope with. If that front 5 starts to click then I can see Henderson doing very well coming in for a Coutinho or Gerrard.

I don't see the point of playing him LW, RW or RWB. We aren't going to get much out of him in those positions bar a bit of hustle and bustle. Yeah, he'll control the ball for us, keep it nice and steady but more often than not he'll shunt the ball back to where it came from. He got a lovely assist there last night and didn't put a foot wrong but it's frustrating watching him out of position.
People need to lay off him a bit, he was integral to our side last year. He's had a few nothing games for us this season but our entire team has been in a rut all season.

I think Woland came up with that moniker aaages ago. Or did someone spot Brendan (silverlining) using it on another forum?

Actually, Ceberus as far back as Feb '12 seems to be the first usage.

Bugger.

It's making it look like last season was a bit of a fluke though. He was shit before last season, and he's now returned back to type.
He probably looked good last year as he was playing in a team that was playing fast free flowing football, and was being pulled along by the tide. Now he's playing in an average team, he looks not exactly great.
I hope he can recapture last seasons 'form', but I'm not convinced, I'm not sure there's enough to his game apart from running around like a headless chicken, harrying people.

How was it a fluke? He was excellent for us last season.

In reply to the bit in bold; he has 3 goals and 4 assists this season.

Henderson is suffering from Kuytitis at the moment.

His all round game is pretty horrible but is one of the managers Mr Dependables as he works hard, will play anywhere and every so often will come up with a big moment.

Kuyt mark II

Dirk is much better. 104 caps.

I like Henderson even if he is way out of form right now. The thread title is still terrible.

He's in poor form at the minute, but he's been one of our most consistent performers over the last two years, how quickly people forget/dismiss. It doesn't help that he's being played out of position, that's about as far as the comparison with McAteer goes though. McAteer was quicker and a bit more direct, but he couldn't defend for toffee and his positional sense was shite. Hendo just looks lost, but then so does half the team, so I'm not sure why we're singling him out, Joe Allen has looked largely indifferent for the best part of two years, but gets a reprieve from the same posters who criticise Hendo. Both are good, fairly young players who need to up it a gear, at least Hendo can say he's managed a run of good form though, the rest of our midfield has been bang average for ages.

Kuyt mark II

And there was nothing wrong with Kuyt either, it's why he still walks into a very good Holland squad, because he can play, he's a leader and he does it in big games.

I don't understand the derision for Kuyt, he was a very good signing for us.

It would seem that win, lose or draw every week, there's always ONE unfortunate fall guy who will get stick from 6CM. And when we've finished through each person in the first team, we begin another cycle of abuse.

I think we're really bored. Like generally in life.
