Re: Jordan Benderson

I think it's fair to say that Kuyt hasn't always proven himself to be great option as a right midfielder in a 4-4-2. He's had some pretty poor runs in the side playing that position. I would agree that I'd rather see him in the side out wide in a 4-3-3 or up front partnering Suarez.

That said there is no point picking sides based on the assertion that right midfield isn't Kuyt's best position. It's missing the point when the alternatives are pretty useless. If and when it's proven there are better options it's worth an argument but for now we gotta work with what we got (which isn't much).

Kuyt has a great record against Everton anyways so he'd be one of the first names on the team sheet for me.

Well if he was that good then he should have dragged the team up like Gerrard or Suarez!

I think LTW has got it right

He does a lot of small things well - creates room, makes good runs etc (things that we don't see on MOTD - we is me too - or in the stat sheet). He was solid, and as I said, as we seem very weak currently in the middle, we are 'missing' meirless. Once Gerrard is fit and running, it will be fine.

Re: Jordan Benderson

Lucas said: "I don't blame the young players because I have been in their position for a few years. He is English and has already adapted to the Premier League. But to change your club and move to a big place like Liverpool is difficult. I think he is playing well. He will get confidence when he gets more minutes and understands the role he needs to do more.

"We just have to keep encouraging him and give him the confidence to keep improving. We can see he has the attributes to be a good player but he is still very young and we just have to give him time and be patient. Then we will see he is a good player. We can see in training that he likes to work hard and that is the main thing. As long as you are working hard every day, your opportunities will come. He will be ready to show his best form if we don't rush him and give him time to settle."

Lucas on benderson there ....... Ok I guess what he is saying is correct and true, be patient and give him time etc etc but the thing that annoys me most with henderson is his lack of balls , always laying it off or cutting it back ...he adds so little he's sort of being carried . If he was trying things which weren't coming off or showing flashes here and there then fine but for me he's showing nothing , bar his one goal I am still waiting to see him do anything of note . I just don't understand how you can't be told "look, stop looking to pass it safe , we need you to try things and if they don't work out then fine , we'll try improve it that they do " . It's fine being like that for your first game or 2 but not 6 or 7 like it is now .

Again he looks like a nice and neat footballer but he offers very little in terms of final decisive play (build up , assists , goals ) so i'm left thinking what's the point of him .

Re: Jordan Benderson

Henderson is the Lucas of wingers.

In a few years he'll improve to average and RAWK will salivating over his arsehole.

Re: Jordan Benderson

The first time I watched Henderson I said he reminded me of a less confident, less able version of Lampard. I haven't changed my mind yet.

He plays like a less confident, less able version of Lampard playing right midfield.

That's it then. There is no way the combined power of our intellects can be wrong.

I propose calling him Hendocraplamps from now on. It's bound to catch on, on here.

So in essence, all we need to do is gee him up a bit, stick him at the top of a diamond, and he'll net us 20+ goals a season from midfield?

I'm afraid I don't see it. He's just not very good.

Well, I fucking hope he grows into the player Lampard was in the next five years.

I really think we should move Henderson into the spear of a midfield three. Maybe not starting in all premier league games, but definitely in the Carling cup. I think it's a position he'll really grow in, I liked (well disliked less than everything else) him playing this position after we went down, i think it'll suit him a lot more.

Not really. I do think he could be a poor man's Lampard though.

I think you guys are forgetting how young he is, Lampard wasn't a messiah back at West Ham, he was a very promising youngster, just like Henderson is. Whilst I don't think Henderson will ever be quite as good as Lampard, I think in 3 years time we'll have a fantastic player on our hands, who'll play somewhere between how Lampard and Gerrard play but not as good as either.

People complained that Chelsea had wasted their money when he signed for them.

I know nothing about Hendersons time at Sunderland, but surely we owe him some time to prove himself rather than lynching him after 5 games, he can only get better afterall.

Exactly! From watching videos (youtube I know) you can tell there is something there, even from watching our games you can tell there is something there, he just needs some time to let it grow, unfortunately he's being thrown in the deep end with us which isn't to his benefit or ours.

In essence, I think he's a Lampard-type neat player, but LESS able and less confident.

He's got the potential to be an effective player alright.

I wonder if spurs fans were ripping into bale after his first 6 games?
Well considering they never won in the first 20 something games he played it would have been fair.

that's my point,, bale didn't look a prem player when first introduced into the spurs team but look at him now. was bale dropped when he looked out of his depth?

Yes. He played 8 games in his first year. Then 16, 23, 30 year by year. I'm sure injuries played a part but he was undoubtedly dropped as well

plus when assou-ekotto started playing well they bumped bale further forward, where he performed

so therefore, neils opinion is to play them in a different position and see if they improve

:p

He was actually originally dropped in his second season for Assou-Ekkoto. Got his chance again when Assou-Ekotto got injured

The difference is that Bale, a year older, came straight to Spurs from the Championship. Henderson had already played a couple seasons for Sunderland in the Premiership and at the age of 21 Bale was starting to be the decider in big games.

Not saying Henderson is a bad player but the Bale comparison is not a good one in my opinion.
