Re: Jordan Benderson

Last years stats trend which we were applying during the summer inclines me to think that Commoli had a huge say in the Benderson transfer.
Carroll was a Dalglish signing though and he's shit too.

Kenny wanted Henderson and now he's getting away with it? Commoli got the blame?

Both the manc clubs have conceded 5 + the chavs have let in 7, compared to our 8 ( 3 of which were when we were down to 9 men i think). If we had Mascher or Didi in their pomp then not only would our defence not be exposed as often, but we'd probably also have a few more points in the bag.

Can we improve our defense? Obviously

Is it our weakest area on the pitch? Not by a long way.

Our CM has been shockingly poor, as others have said we need to play an extra man in midfield to help cover for the likes of Lucas and Adams painfully obvious inadequacies.
Let's compare our defenses when we've played the same teams. I don't need stats to tell me our defense isn't even comparable to the mancs reserve team at this point. They let in 2 goals when they beat Arsenal by 6 - we've been leaking goals for draws or with squeaky wins. We haven't had the pleasure of lining up against the Chavs yet.

The CM situation is simply down to one player at this point - Adam is a part of the offense but subs himself out whenever the ball gets turned over. Mascher and Didi would have had the same issues having 3 players running at them as Lucas has had - regardless of what you might think. Once there's another player there who will close down in midfield that issue will dry up. The same can't be said of the back four which is, by far, our weakest area.
After watching our games this season i struggle to understand how anyone can come to that conclusion.

He is a solid player and for a run of like 5 games, was in fantastic goal scoring form. I think he had a good season, and was very instrumental in our good play.

Because the middle of the park is a weakness currently, we are propping him up to a level which I don't believe he reached with Liverpool (or Porto for that matter).

Yes, but he came on with Suarez against a 10-man Arsenal in the closing part of the game and helped score a goal so he must be a superstar, no?

*quite proud that I managed to start a sentence with 'yes' and end it with 'no' :) *

So a good season is being a solid player, scores a few goals, plays well in 5-10 matches? Well, that means Carroll, Henderson and Adam can still have a good season with 30+ games still to play?

He does a lot of small things well - creates room, makes good runs etc (things that we don't see on MOTD - we is me too - or in the stat sheet). He was solid, and as I said, as we seem very weak currently in the middle, we are 'missing' meirless. Once Gerrard is fit and running, it will be fine.

We're not missing Meireles. Meireles has nothing special. We only be missing special players. Gerrard is the one that we missed most but having Gerrard in the team with the two average and sometimes decent player in Lucas and Adam wouldn't change much.

Stop eating while you read.

I said with Gerrard coming back and playing with those two in the middle there won't be any significant iprovement unless Kenny plays Gerrard at right wing.

I'm not eating.

And you clearly dis not say that.

Oh and I'm sorry I said you lost your train of thought. I assumed you had one.

We had better results without Gerrard than with last year. We had far worse results without Ming than with last year.

Re: Jordan Benderson

I know there are mitigating issues in any stats, that's why I can't be arsed with them. If you look at last year's points per game you can easily make the point that Ming was our most important player, but I can't be arsed, and stats can be fucked with. The point is that it was obvious that he was our most important player when we were good last season from Xmas on, just from going to the match. We had one intelligent midfielder during the back half of last season, sorting out the direction for all the other fuckwads. Then we bought Benderson and sold him.

Re: Jordan Benderson

We had a much easier fixture list post Xmas than pre Xmas too.

Wasn't Liverpool only really good in the second half of last season??

And Ross, depending on what you define as good I suppose, he had a lot more than 10 good games last season. The only one who consistently played better than him last season was Suarez - and he never had to deal with the swill we turned out under Roy. He had the knack of making other players look better simply due to movement. Old ground but why we feel the need to rewrite history when someone leaves is mystifying.

Let's compare our defenses when we've played the same teams.
How about Stoke?

De Gea was critical in saving the Mancs a point, and they conceded 1.

Reina had nothing to do bar pick the penalty (the only shot on goal no?) out of his net.

I think they've played Bolton too?
ALT, I seriously don't quite get where you're coming from. Are people seriously trying to compare our defense with that of both mancs? Seriously?

They're at the top of the pile and scoring goals for fun. They've won everything comfortably with the exception of one draw each. When you're putting 8 past a team you can afford to drop a couple at the other end. It's only natural - very hard to have the intensity in defense when you're scoring a goal every 11 minutes.

The defense of both of them has looked very composed and accomplished while ours has not. Simple really.

You said you wanted to compare the teams when we've played similar teams - so I said Stoke. Yes the Mancs have been scoring for fun, but against similar teams - they didn't. That's all I was highlighting.
