Joe Gomez fears he has suffered a serious injury in England training that could deepen Liverpool’s defensive crisis.
England manager Gareth Southgate is expected to confirm Gomez’s injury later on Wednesday, with the player and Liverpool sweating over the severity of it.
It is understood that Gomez is concerned that the injury, the specific nature of which is not yet known, is bad and that he could be out for some time.
That would be the worst possible news for Liverpool, with Virgil van Dijk already in danger of missing the rest of this season after undergoing surgery on a serious knee injury and Trent Alexander-Arnold out for around four weeks.
Gomez partnered Joel Matip against Manchester City at the weekend, while Fabinho, who has also been out with an injury, has filled in at the back this season.
But losing Gomez for any length of time may force Liverpool into the transfer market in January to find cover, with both of their first-choice centre-backs potentially out.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been vocal in his insistence that the well-being of players is being put at risk by the tight schedule and the inability to make more than three substitutions in the Premier League.
An injury to Gomez will only strengthen the German’s belief that the scheduling and number of substitutes teams can make needs to be changed.
Gomez’s injury would also be a blow to Southgate ahead of England’s Nations League games against Belgium and Iceland.

FFS.

This season has been an injury nightmare and were only a couple of months in!

I'm convinced some manc cunt has got a working LFC voodoo doll this year. It's gutting for Gomez, who has really stepped up since VVD got injured and certainly rebuilt his stock with the fans.

The positives are Williams and Phillips have yet to put a foot wrong AFAIC. They'll be tested further, but with Matip alongside we should be alright. Fabinho's probably back in 4 weeks. It's a case of muddling through and praying Alisson and Matip can stay fit.

We couldn't have asked for a much better time to have a CB crisis. The CL games are all dead-rubber ties. We'll qualify regardless. Hopefully Fabinho should be back for Spurs to pocket Son and Kane. The biggest threat there is Jamie Vardy.

In training. They havn't even started playing these pointless fucking games yet. God knows how many more will be fuckedby the time they get back. Pure fucking madness these games!

Losing Gomez for a couple of months now would be horrific. Lets hope he gets some good news.

Why do the international breaks now cover 3 games rather than the usual 2 ?
It’s ridiculous, everyone is after their fare share but no consideration for player welfare. That idiot Danny Mills was defending the fixture list on radio last night but offered no actual reasoning for being sensible about it.

By the end of the year, we'll start with a CB pairing of Fabs and Hendo (if one or both of them aren't injured / reinjured by then too).

Sterling broke Gomez leg didn't he!

That second lengthy injury at England for Joe, do the training team there know what they are doing
