Latest training vid:

Milner, Trent and Firmino are back. Naby and Thiago are missing.

So the only question is whether Milner or Jones starts in midfield alongside Fabs & Hendo.

We are starting to look very, very thin in midfield and the decision not to replace Gini will be our undoing.

We can probably shoehorn Firmino into the attacking midfield role if necessary

This was pointed out a ridiculous number of times over the summer. You can't take a guy who plays 50 games a season out of the team and not replace him. We are only 5 games in and already starting to feel the impact.

Yep - I don’t think anybody thought it was a good idea to not bring in a new midfielder.

I do not completely disagree in concept, but how are we feeling the impact? We have scored 3 goals in last 5 games. Win all of the games but Chelsea. And the injuries have had nothing to do with be overplayed.

Maybe a little too early to be talking about impact. We can just admit that last season’s injury trauma has cost us all some long term damage in our perspective.

Impact because we’re barely into the season and we’ve got Elliot, Thiago & Kieta out. OX - won’t be long till he’s injured and he’s in abysmal form.

So that leaves us with Fabs, Hendo, Jones and 90 YO James Milner covering 3 roles in midfield.

Milner seemingly can’t play 2 games a week, Hendo has had injury problems and Jones, I would say, has not really established himself fully as yet.

Minamino is too weak to play in midfield.

That leaves us looking at whatever other kids we have or the prospect of one of the defenders or Bobby (when he’s fit) having to play in midfield.

It was a mistake not to bring in a midfielder in the summer - we all knew it.

Can't disagree too much but as with many on here - overstating it by giving prominence to what could happen rather than what has (see Matip re. people's expectations).

So whilst that could happen the reality is that we have Fabs, Hendo, Jones, Milner and Thiago back soon if not back already (in training it seems). Keita out but surely not for too long (back after the International break at worst). So back to 6 midfielders, Bobby in an emergency and with some decent youngsters (Morton & Gordon if not more) & Minamino for the next Milk Cup / Rumbelows game to give the senior pros some time off. That's the flip side of the coin.

I like the dig at Arsenal.

Bees’ strike duo to sting Liverpool

Brentford prepare for their first meeting with one of the Premier League’s elite and, having put plenty of credit in the bank with eight points from five games, they have earned the right to a proper go at Liverpool. Entertainment seems guaranteed and both defences will be gainfully occupied. Sadio Mané and Mohamed Salah have begun this season with purpose, even by their high standards. With 24 and 22 attempts at goal respectively, the pair have comfortably outshot anyone else in the division and scored seven between them. Although Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Bryan Mbuemo have not let fly as often, they will present a handful themselves. The Bees’ frontmen have not allowed opponents much rest so far and after they combined to down Wolves last week, Thomas Frank felt moved to compare them with Dwight Yorke and Andy Cole. That particular combination gave Liverpool plenty to fear back in the day: now their would-be modern equivalents have a chance to take the next scalp in Brentford’s remarkable rise

How?

How the absolute fuck is he fucking injured again, already? Is he made of fucking sugar?!?

And this, THIS is the bloke who's stalling on signing a new deal until he's promised a more prominent role in the team?

Do me a favour, mate.

Keita will never get a more prominent role because he can't play more than 3 games without taking a month off. We really shouldn't be offering him any sort of extension unless it's on significantly worse terms than what he's got now.

Klopp on Naby Keita: Nothing really serious, but keeps him out of the next game, for sure, and maybe a little bit longer. It's nothing serious but obviously painful. If he can play the rest of the season it would extremely helpful.

Well clearly he won't be able to play the rest of the season will he Jurgen.....

Be interesting to see if Bobby starts, although he was notably absent from the shooting drills and the 4/5 a side session

Hard to call the line up. Could save Hendo for Porto. Like to see Gomez and VVD in defence. Might go with Mini up top with Jota on the bench.

Great to see Brentford getting a chance in the Prem. Think they will do well, not against us.

Our bench is going to be very interesting over the next few games.

I predict a total combined number of games - 10
