But how much would it cost to buy a utility player like Milner. His experience etc, his willingness to play almost any position, an valuable option on the bench. Plus he passes on his knowledge and guidance to younger players. Players like Milly and Gary Mac before him are rare finds, and to get them scot free even better. Don't let them go unless they want out.

The fact we didn't pay anything for him is irrelevant, he's been a great servant to the club and hopefully there's a place for him on the coaching staff.

When you talk about utility players it's the ability to play a number of positions to a high standard, thats a description of Milner from a few years ago not now. He's far too slow to play at fullback now, particularly in our system where the fullback are auxiliary wingers. And every time he plays in midfield he's getting the run around.

I don't care much about a players age, if he was still turning in decent performances I'd have no concerns. But that's not really the case anymore.
