Yes you are. You paying a broadcaster, a sportswear manufacturer or any other business attached to the club means nothing. You’re just a source of revenue. Buying a ticket entitles you to go watch a game of football. You’re nothing special. Fucking entitlement indeed.

If we were just customers, then we'd all fuck off and watch Everton or Man Utd or whoever when the service declined etc.

But we don't, because we aren't. We're fans. That means there's a totally different relationship between owner and buyer. On the one hand their revenue stream is MUCH safer. But in return they have to expect their fucking "customers" to be more demanding, and vocally critical. After all, the loyalty and fervour of the fan base is actually PART of the "product" that they're selling!!

This means more etc (yuk)

Mes aye in club etc

Therefore it's OBVIOUSLY a much more nuanced and fragile system than just Tescos or whoever selling groceries. There are many implicit good faith exchanges embedded in the relationship. Just because they're not written down on paper doesn't mean they're not there.

FSG themselves understand that. That's why they backed out of ticket price rises and the super league etc. Do you really think they couldn't sell tickets at a higher price if they really wanted to, for example? They're basically impossible to get. But they know that a simple application of market principles is never going to be adequate when you have the sort of "customers" who can gather in their thousands and basically riot in front of their "place of business".

Just a pity more of our fans don't understand that really.

You are a customer. You have that opportunity to go support a local club if you want. There’s many who have frequented this board who go watch someone else whether that be marine or Wycombe wanderers or whoever they want. If the club went under with the cowboys would we just stop being involved with the sport? Doubt it.

You are also coming at it from your own demographic. The younger fan base is more fluid now. The FIFA generation has a group that supports players. A kid likes Messi will now follow PSG. They like Ronaldo, they have Madrid, Juventus and Man U shirts.

You (we) just chose to remain in this bubble of Liverpool FC.

The club is fleecing everyone at every opportunity. Raising ticket prices brings in a pittance and causes a minor headache. Signing a contract with a kit manufacturer that charges £100 per shirt really brings in the revenue. Come out and complain about the broadcasting companies and kick off times sounds like unison with the fans. When they sign this billion quid deals they don’t give a fuck. Then the broadcasters charge an arm and a leg to make money off those billions. There’s no good faith whatsoever. The club makes massive noises about tickets at Wembley and finals, then give 20% of the allocations to part of “the club family”. You’re just a commodity they are exploiting should you chose to buy these associated products. That’s the market principles they are following. You want to follow this club, this is gonna cost you.

Whether they give the fifty mill or not probably won’t change the value of the club. So why even bother taking the risk? The ticket buying crowd won’t even make a noise about the investment or not. They won’t riot. They’ll carry on being good little customers and if they don’t go there’s more good little customers behind them that will.

We're not even in disagreement ffs.

All you're saying is that while fans let themselves be treated like fools then they will be. Which is what I'm saying too.

OBVIOUSLY the owners will treat the fans like cash cows IF WE LET THEM! That's not the point at issue.

The point I'm trying to make is that there's a balance between that and something like sugar daddery that we should consider an acceptable compromise. And that what we currently experience IS NOT THAT.

Given we need about 3 midfielder next season. We might see us try for one of the free transfers that could be available next summer:

Tielemans
Mac Allister
Gavi (will probably sign a new deal)
Soler (might end up at PSG this window)
Laimer
Douglas Luiz

Our transfer strategy seems to be;
80% of recent transfers seem to be Portuguese, from the Portuguese league or Brazilian who speak Portuguese, If we veer from that, then its Scotland, which is why Tielemans is a non-starter.

Some notable midfielders with contract expiring at end of season:

Douglas Luiz
Youri Tielemans
Konrad Laimer
Houssem Aouar

Tielemans was very impressive against Utd last night. That was quite something in a horrendous Leicester side.

Wonder if these 2 are options too

I’m think this is how it’s largely going to be in the future with footballers running down their contracts and pocketing signing on fees. We can see this with the trend for longer contracts for 21-22 year olds (Nūnez, Foffana, Tchouaméni etc.) Only the moneybags or desperadoes will spend gazillions on transfer fees to other clubs.

Think I read that Chelsea gave Fofana a 7 year contract.

I also noticed.
I first thought it was some American thing, as they do this in their leagues.
But there could be something in it, as players run contracts down more now and then pocket the signing on fees, moving clubs when it expires.

Be funny when half of them turn into the ox. Lucky bastards getting paid millions forever no matter how shit or injured they get. What can possibly go wrong?

Them getting injured a slightly earlier, having invested their entire lives and career development into football, and never making it as a professional footballer?

In the world of "paid to do nothing," including in football, players don't even rate for me. They aren't precisely doing nothing either, I mean, Ox has the Sisyphean task of rehabbing various injuries at a gym just to be back there months later. That beats "they made a significant capital risk and are entitled to receive a payout the likes of which you and your family, your antecedents, and your offspring will never see cumulatively in your entire lifetime. It's coal mining compared to the bureaucratic sinecures in football administration too.

He works like an Ox, is what I'm saying.

Arthur
Bajcetic
Carvalho
Darwin
Elliot
Fabinho

If we sign Bellingham, Caicedo, Douglas and Gavi next, we could have a compelling alphabetical midfield. A to H.

But I suspect we are more likely to play Jones

Bring back Jordan Ibe!
