Always injured. His chance has passed him by. Shame, happens quite a lot actually.

Same for Dunn and Yesil.

Team for the game against Everton U21s:
Starters: Fulton, Randall, Maguire, Cleary, Ilori, Rossiter, Canos, Brannagan, Dunn, Teixeira, Wilson.
Subs: Chirivella, Firth, Kent, Brewitt, O'Hanlon

Strong team we've put out today.

I thought Kent had went to MK Dons?

Rumoured; not sure if it was confirmed. Anyway, it wouldn't be strange even if he'd gone out, as last season, we still had players who were on loan coming back for games when they didn't feature for the clubs they went to. Good arrangement for the kids.

1-0 to us now. Wilson with a penalty he earned. Holsgate, the new Everton chap who just arrived from Barnsley, gave it away. We've been the dominant side in this game so far (15 mins in) without really creating too many clear cut chances before the goal.

So far, Ilori has read the game well, Tex has been industrious though he wasted a good chance for us when he got greedy, opting to shoot instead of pass. Rossiter's played well too, distributed the ball in the middle of the pitch well, and closed down players diligently.

Teix with a wonderful goal; 2-0 now. Brannagan intercepts a pass in the Everton half, passes to Teix and continue his run into the box. Teix takes the ball forward and flushes it into the bottom corner from 20 yards or so. Brilliant finishing.

We're just killing them in this game. Canos make it 3, but it could've been 6 by the time he scored off a good short layoff by Cleary.

Maguire's playing very well in this game by the way - probably the best I've seen from him yet. Solid at the back other than one iffy clearance, and he's been pushing up and stretching the Everton side very well.

Teix is just everywhere. He's playing in the AM role, and come all the way back to the right corner to help Randall defend. He looks like he's really, really out to impress and convince Rodgers that he's ready to get minutes, or at least get the attention of scouts and get a loan.

Meanwhile, Fulton with 2 great saves for us to keep the match at 3-0.

Canos off, Chirivella on. Everton are coming more into the game in this half without really working Fulton. Ooh... and they nearly score from a good cross. Headed over from almost under the bar.

That's shit. 3-3. Fulton spills a long range shot, and they put it in. They've been the better side this half so just deserved it for their persistence. Our performance in the second half has been pretty mediocre though. Looks like the intensity of our game in the first half sapped our energy.

3-3 it ends. Disappointing to throw away 2 absolutely avoidable goals like that (first one was really unlucky). Cleary and Brannagan impressed me in the second half. Cleary (CB) was solid in defence, be it in the centre or pulling out wide. Brannagan had a quiet game in terms of his contribution in the final third as Teix ran that part of the show in the first half. However, he's such an intelligent player and user of the ball - he seldom wasted a pass, and I thought he did a decent job controlling the tempo for us while the rest ahead of him faded and left Dunn starved of service.

Be nice if tex got a chance to impress this year

Won't happen like but itd be nice

I think he'll get his chance in the cup games, but needs to be lucky with the draw. With our lack of full backs right now though, I'm warming to Cleary's chances of breaking through this season in the cup tournaments, albeit as a RB first, rather than a CB where he usually plays.

Joao Carlos Teixeira produced a performance full of trickery in Liverpool's 3-3 draw with Everton in a Merseyside U21 Premier League derby.

The midfielder, who played 35 games on loan at Brighton last season and has spoke of his determination to impress Reds boss Brendan Rodgers, stood out as Liverpool raced into a three-goal lead.

He capped his display with a well-deserved goal but it wasn't enough to seal a derby victory as Everton fought back in the second half to earn a share of the spoils.

Everton midfielder Leon Osman, working as a pundit on the game for Sky Sports, was full of praise for the 22-year-old.
"The way he was on the ball, with his tricks and his skills, and the way he went about his game, he was terrific," Osman told Sky Sports.

"The Liverpool team was good for 45 minutes but he was good for the whole game."

"The Liverpool team was good for 45 minutes but he was good for the whole game."

Nah, don't agree with Osman on that. Everything we did in the first half went through Teix, but he was poor in the second, in my opinion. I think he tired (with a few others in the team) and perhaps Everton's adjustments also helped.

I thought Teixeira tried to do a little too much in the second half. Was impressed with Rossiter and Branagan. perhaps the decision to let Lucas go might be linked to a feeling that Rossiter is ready to step up.

As Liverpool Under-21s took the field to play their local rivals Everton in the mini-derby last night, one noticeable absence from the team sheet was starlet Jerome Sinclair, which started rumours of his emission swirling all around Twitter.

Yet, the Echo is reporting that a conversation with Under-21 manager Michael Beale has revealed that it is injury, not contract wrangles, that are keeping Sinclair out of the side, and Beale also went as far as to praise the young striker for his commitment and attitude during a time when contract issues could well be weighing heavy on his mind.

“He picked up a knock two days ago and he’s going to be out for 14 days which was a shame because he would have played against Everton. In the Chelsea game (season opener) he worked his socks off and missed a couple of chances which he’ll be a little bit frustrated with,” said the youth manager.
I just work with Jerome every day, he’s really positive and we just keep moving forward with Jerome’s normal development. These things take a little bit of time to work out, I’m not involved in that process.

This news will come as a relief to Liverpool fans across the globe who are concerned about losing a potential star to a rival. It is also exciting news that the player, unlike others before him, has knuckled down and continued to excel despite off-the-field issues.

“Jerome’s attitude towards training has always been outstanding and that’s why we’ve seen the progress from Jerome last season – because he turns up every day and wants to work hard,” he said.

In relation to rumours about Sinclair’s whereabouts, the manager said: “You’ve just got to be careful with the things in the press because people can hear a rumour and go a little bit too far with what the truth is. “If anyone watched the Chelsea game last week they’ll know Jerome looks like a player who’s giving his all for Liverpool and we’ll keep moving forward with that.”

It would be worth keeping an eye out for any updates on a loan deal or contract offer from the club to Sinclair throughout the summer as the player steps up his recovery from this minor setback.

Couldn't find a stream for the game so I watched the bore draw between Newcastle and the Mancs instead. Could've been watching this exciting game instead!

Stunning comeback gives U18s 4-3 win

Chris Shaw @shawct

Toni Gomes scored a second-half hat-trick as Liverpool U18s battled from three goals down to claim a 4-3 victory against Middlesbrough on Saturday morning.

Despite a fairly even opening 45 minutes at the Kirkby Academy, Neil Critchley’s side found themselves with plenty of work to do by half-time.

Lee Hetherington put the visitors in front with a close-range finish midway through the period and the lead was doubled by Alex Pattison from a similar angle just before the break.

Boro struck a further blow early in the second half when Patrick Reading snuck in behind the backline and hooked a shot underneath the goalkeeper.

All seemed lost with the score 3-0 and when Gomes grabbed the first of what would become a personal treble on 66 minutes, it seemed likely to be mere consolation.

But the striker reduced the deficit again with a quarter of an hour remaining, heading superbly into the top corner from a Yan Dhanda delivery.

Gomes showed his proficiency in the air to then level the contest. He dominated the scene when Adam Phillips whipped into the area and found the net for his hat-trick.

But the young Reds weren’t satisfied and Phillips was the provider of a dramatic winner, Dhanda creeping into freedom and clipping over the ‘keeper to secure an unexpected triumph.

Liverpool U18s: Wheeler, Lewis (Dobie), Owens (Woodburn), Johnston, Masterson, Alexander-Arnold, Phillips, Kane, T Gomes (Naeem), Ejaria, Dhanda. Unused substitutes: George, Garton.

I've always liked the look of Gomes, seems like a real all rounder and a great athlete.

Anyone know why Adekanye isn't playing for the 18s yet? Still waiting for clearance?

Teix vs Everton U21s

Video evidence of the existence of Tiago Ilori; first half vs Everton U21s. He's no. 5; LCB with an Agger-like tendency to bring the ball out of defence.

Brannagan deserves his own clip.

Highlights of the U18s' 4-3 win; this time without the post-match analysis. As peterhague said, Gomez does look good. Solid headers, and looks like he's got good strikers' instincts in the box. Phillips' and Dhanda's deliveries are delicious.
