Betting 3% Challenge. This time next year Rodney.......

Prefix for Betting Threads
Maybe you're right. Lost £2 today on a 4 way acca.

I had Dundee Utd (a), Club Bruge, Giannina and Porto.

Dundee won 4-0, Giannina 501 but Bruges, 1.45 favs at home managed to loose.
Never mind. Doing it this way I only need every other bet to win. I shall persevere.

I'm going to start with a tenner tomorrow. The time has come for someone to do this....
[/quote]

Backed Master Minded on saturday at 1/4 so have covered the next few days. Will be having a bet on the tennis tomorrow.

Still going....backed Man Utd at home to Spurs.

I'm finding it's better to back something every few days at 1/3 or the like.

Noone ever makes it.

That's because they overreach, get caught up in 'targets' and end up making what seems like a "sure fire 100%" winning bet that ends up tanking because they forget that nothing is guaranteed, that is why it is still called gambling.
It is possible (although not to reach £500,000 as the money you would end up putting on would not get matched on betfair or taken at a regular bookies) but over a lot longer period (some days not even betting) with a variety of different bets, it can work. It's also best to have a speciality like horse racing/football that you know the ins (truly know, not just seen the odd game for a team you back etc.) and outs of, not just relying on stats. If anybody wants to try this after viewing this thread, then I suggest forgetting 3%, go for an average (key word there) of 0.5%. Also limit your exposure to no more than 5% of your bank.

Backing Man U seems like common sense to me. At 1.4 v West Brom they were a steal.

40% profit was nice and it eases the pain of seeing them win again.

I started again with £4 I had in my BF account about 4 weeks ago. If is now £48. It has been over £50 but I have had some iffy results recently.

I am picking 3, 4 or 5 home favs and doing multiples. Odds vary between 3.0 to 5.5 but roughly 50% have won, meaning profit!

I will sometimes pick an away fav if it is like 'No Mark Team' v Barca etc. I have mostly avoided the Italian league and tried to stick with leagues that have a definite 2 or 3 big guns.

Turkey, Greece, Scotland, Spain and the EPL have been fruitful.

You can get a lot of useful stats at http://www.soccerstats.com/

Yesterday I chickened out of laying Fulham, despite the fact that they have only 3 away goals all season and haven't managed a win yet. They only had (prior to yesterday) 3 draws away all season and Wigan were on 13 points from their previous 5 games.

Also, could have had 2.25 for Wigan to keep a clean sheet on Bet365. I wish I's seen that before the game!

I'm up to £173.56!

Anyone got any ideas for the weekend - I haven't had a bet for over a week. For some reason I don't fancy backing Man Utd at home tomorrow.

I read this thread and thought I would give it a go.

£10 on Inter who where already 1-0 up - Winner £14 quid odd

£10 on Everton who were 1-1 at 11-10 - Wnner £27.30

Put £21 on a Draw in the test if that comes in that will give me a total of £34

The problem I have is that I know f'all about the horses, this sort of leaves me a bit stranded, as I can't keep going for results when there is 20 minutes left, any ideas?

YEah the Test ended in a draw so at £34 way ahead of schedule.

WIll probably do some in game betting on the mancs and arse tonight.

I was thinking about doing this myself. Started with a tenner the other day, won with Man City against Palace, now back down to £8 after Barcelona's and that cunt Ibrahimovic's incompetence.

Anyone still doing this? Or anyone particularly good with bets? Could do with a few tips and guidelines.

I'll give this one another go. My home internet has been playing-up so I haven't registered any weekend bets recently but it seems to be working now so I will get this challenge and the Martingale one back on track.

The only "secret" in how to win at betting Hal is "value". You have to find good value for your bet or otherwise you'll lose and in the end it's your judgement as to what represents value.

For instance, if I see a team priced at 3/1 but I think they have a great chance of winning and IMO they should be 2/1 it means that I still don't expect them necessarily to win but they have a better chance than the bookies think. If my judgement is correct for most of the season and I keep back 2/1 shots at 3/1 I will not win every week but I will end up in profit.

Examples from this weekend are

Bristol Rovers v Oldham
Crystal Palace v Scunthorpe
Reading v Doncaster

All the away teams above are 7/2 or better on Betfair and IMO Dopncaster should be about 3/1, Scunthorpe 11/4 and Oldham 9/4ish and I would be surprised if at least one didn't win.

I will wait until 2:30 on Saturday when the teams are announced (I don't understand how people can bet without knowing who is playing i.e. injuries, suspensions etc) before I finalise my bets but I expect to bet on at least one of the above matches.

I will try and get on this thread about 2:55 to confirm which value bet(s) I've gone for.

Fucking internet still playiny up but I managed to lay the Bristol Rovers win v Oldham and will include that in my Martingale bet

I started doing this again about 2 weeks ago. Just doing Footie/Tennis and a few Geegees.

So far in 15 days my bank has gone from €30 to €55, so I'm on target.

Yep.. I can't start properly until september as ill be away for 2 weeks. I started off though with a bet on the England game. £2 bet to win 64p.

Starting bank is £20. so this first one takes the bank to £20.64 against a target of 20.60.

I've got 3.20 on Chelsea to beat West Brom to win 58p.

Did they lose?

My bank is at 21.22, exactly on target but just noticed betfair have taken a 3p commission for both bets. Is that their standard rate or is it done as a percentage? Might need to start taking that into account!

I've got £3 on there not being a sending off in the Liverpool game today. 1.25. Very random bet!

Their standard "fee" is 5% of the winning bet. You can get discount from this, go to "My Account" and then "Betfair Points Statement" and it explains it but you'd have to bet quite a lot and quite big amounts to qualify for a discount.

How's is going? I quite like the idea but this seasons been horrendous for predictability..

My 08/09 and 09/10 spreadsheets earned tidy profits by putting £100 on either Utd or Chelsea to win each week (depending upon fixtures) pulling back around £40 each time.. Of course its gut wrenching when they inevitably lost, but this was few and far between and I didn't gamble when it was a top 6 clash..

This season i've only made seasonal ones and nothings struck me as particularly appealing.. And i'm feeling the hit of not having my usual disposable income at this time of year that i've previously enjoyed..

I reckon the 2:55 special thread is showing a decent profit so far Jimmy so if you've got an internet account (preferably with Betfair) I hope to keep the run going this weekend.

I was in Czech Republic last week and didn't get a chance to log my bet here (I'm also Dancing Brave) but I succesfully layed Bury winning at home to Peterbro.

For the hell of it I'm also going to get this 3% challenge going again although the 3% challenge will always just be a bit of fun because realistically, eventually, the 3% target makes you take on bets you otherwise wouldn't.
