That's because they overreach, get caught up in 'targets' and end up making what seems like a "sure fire 100%" winning bet that ends up tanking because they forget that nothing is guaranteed, that is why it is still called gambling.
It is possible (although not to reach £500,000 as the money you would end up putting on would not get matched on betfair or taken at a regular bookies) but over a lot longer period (some days not even betting) with a variety of different bets, it can work. It's also best to have a speciality like horse racing/football that you know the ins (truly know, not just seen the odd game for a team you back etc.) and outs of, not just relying on stats. If anybody wants to try this after viewing this thread, then I suggest forgetting 3%, go for an average (key word there) of 0.5%. Also limit your exposure to no more than 5% of your bank.
