What a game, eh? 😉

I missed the last goal. Turned off the telly after the 3-3 goal.
Got home, found out through Tele-text that we scored a late winner.

It always brings a smile to my face seeing that.

Also, look at their boots!!!!! No fucking neon bollocks there.

If I remember correctly, this game was played at 3:00am over here in Asia. It was extremely difficult to suppress a yell out in joy when Gary Mac scored.

Gary Mac was immense that game. So was Stevie who fully came of age that night. The real star was the wonderfully named Delfi Geli though. I still remember jumping into a bunch of like minded reds in the bar I was in when that bobbed off his head and in the net. I didn't know any of them but they took it all in good humour I recall.

Ha ha ha! Oops! Got my 2001 priorities wrong. 16th April/16th May - That's an OOT for ya 😉

I watched it before and it said Gerrard got sent off on the Friday against Leeds so was suspended.

I think Red was probably thinking of the derby just a few months later at the start of the next season. The goal Gerrard scored that day is still probably my favourite of his.

Nah I was thinking of the UEFA cup final against Alavez - It was exactly a month after that stonking Gary Mac drive.

heskey's only season of being a proper striker, awesome at times

Was that the season he scored a hatrick at Derby? That was a cracking game I remember.

I have a theory about him actually, and it applies to Shearer as well. When Michael Owen got into the Liverpool and England sides respectively, both Shearer and Heskey saw their roles changed and took on more of a "water-carrier"-type job, going for goal when/if they could rather than having it as their main role in the team. As the far better player of the two Shearer was able to make that switch work reasonably well while Heskey wasn't, but neither of them was ever the same goalscoring force again.

Heskey was bought when Owen was already an established player, though. In fact, he was probably the best player in the team!

That's true, but Owen then picked up an injury, Heskey got Owen's intended gig as point man in the attack and nobody, but NOBODY could cope with him that season. Then Owen came back, GH put the reins on Heskey and turned him into a carthorse, and the rest is history.

I was in Cape Town on holiday with my then girlfriend. We were at Cape Point heading for the lighthouse when I spotted a computer behind the little information desk. No one bout so I went on the BBC website. Saw the score and went out to the end of Africa punching the air and howling at the sea. Girlfriend couldn't believe she'd taken me to her home country and to a such a special place and all i cared about was the footy.
I'm married to someone else now.
