He's worth £46m to them. But he's not worth £10m. He's their 'record' signing at £500k.

Adam has been fucking immense this season.

In the current climate with a 4 year contract, he'd easily go for circa 10m

We're trying to get him on the cheap because he had 18 months left on his contract.

If an 18 year old from Southampton who has played a handfull of games can command an asking price of £10m then holloway us absolutely correct to try and get more for him.

Nothing wrong with us trying to get him on the cheap either.

Poulsen used to be a good player. Arguably in the top 10 DMs in the world in his prime ( when he was back in Sevilla). So it's not like he doesn't have the talent or the tools to play at the highest level - he does and he has, it's just for some reason his performance dropped off a cliff as soon as he left Sevilla for Juve and than us. I still have some small hope he can recover and a performance like yesterday's is an encouraging sign. If Kenny can turn him around, even partially, than the DM problem would cease to be so urgent, at least until the summer.

Now, I have a question for everybody. We have 2 top-class attack-minded CMs in the team, in Gerrard and Meireles. They probably cannot play together as a 2-man midfield (although who knows, ManU somehow got away with "soft" midfield a la Carrick-Scholes in a lot of games), so the ideal solution would be a 3-man midfield with Gerrard and Meireles in CM and a reliable anchorman. Do we really need another attack-minded CM like Charlie Adam? My answer to that would be probably "yes", because that would give us cover in case either one of Gerrard or Meireles cannot play for any reason and we would not have to change the system, which could negatively affect the whole team.

But I wouldn't break a bank for another CM at this point, because frankly I don't see how we can have all 3 of Gerrard, Adam and Meireles on the pitch at the same time, other than playing some exotic system like "diamond" 4-4-2 with fullbacks as wingers - can't see it happening here, especially considering that we don't have a decent specialist left back. So I am still in favor of signing Adam - we need more intelligent players in this team, but with Holloway haggling like a Turkish jewelry salesman ("My friend, 30 euros for this necklace? How could you insult me like that? 35 or no deal!&quot😉, I would not raise the bid too many times.
[/quote]

I agree. Why not spend that money on a DM and wait to sign Adam on a free when his contract runs out?

He's had half a good season in the EPL where he's played week in week out. Will he get that at Liverpool ? He looks a good player but all these people claiming him as Souness and Molbys lovechild is all a bit premature for me. He's not worth £10 million. They bought him for £500k and he's less than 18 months left on his contract. He's not worth £10 million, 5 is about right. Holloway is a hypocrite.

Mostly true Sunny, but right now with where Blackpool are in the table and they way he has been playing, he could very well be the difference between them staying up and going down! Holloway is right in what he says in why take 4 or 5 million now when they stand to lose 46 million should they go down. That's a massive massive loss to a small club like them. Should they accept our bid and get relegated he'd be lynched! So although your right in saying he's only worth around 5 million, right now it really doesnt make sense for them to sell.

He's not exactly being too complementary to the rest of his squad, saying that one player is the difference between staying up and going down. I'm not saying he is saying exactly that, but some members of their squad may think that...

We all know £5m's a steal, regardless of what they paid for him. He's proven he can compete at the top level now in england now. Whether he can sustain it is another issue.

I have no problem in blackpool trying it on.

That's the thing, he doesn't have a 4 year contract. With 18 months left, 5M is all they can hope to get and that would probably be a club record by some distance.

Holloway is a hypoctrite but who can blame him for not wanting to lose his best player? If he does, then he wants top dollar and nobody is going to pay up.

You have now convinced mate, Adam is not one we should spunk loads of money on. It seems a lot rate him on here however so if he'd be available for a fee in the region of £5M he'd be worth the try.

Otherwise I hope we look elsewhere and buy some blistering fast and skillful wingers instead.

A few people have reported we'll either sign him or Young, not both. If we're willing to spend £10mil, I'd rather we out in a couple more and sign Young.

Is buying Adam absolutely vital right now? Don't think so

I say we do as Holloway asks and wait for the summer and then screw them over with a £4.5 Million bid.

I mind the fact that he had to name Kenny and make it seem personal 'Kenny's offered £4million, but might have been enough last time he was a manager'. Suggesting what, Kenny doesn't understand the game? Jog on Holloway.

I really dislike him since he said that.

I did. If I'd read reports of alonso before he came to Liverpool it would have suggested that alonso couldn't play as a DM but in a midfield two of alonso and didi/momo/mash alonso always played deeper of the two.

Erm....
Holloway said: "I was thinking Liverpool and Charlie. I thought fantastic what a great club for him to go to and then when I heard the bid I thought it was disgraceful. I don't think it was Kenny that put that offer in. Mr (Damien) Comolli (Liverpool's director of football strategy) should look at what is going on and get realistic.

Is adam as good a player as meriles?

If he is then he'll cost as much.

End of!
