I don't think Driving Tests bear any resemblance to real world driving though. 10-15 definitely too much. Maybe base it on points accumulated? If U21 then 4 points re-do, U25 6 points, U35 9 points.

I think glaring errors can be see though e.g. if 70 year olds who have really slow reactions were to do a test, they'd fail

I hate cars. They ruin everything. They make ugly cities that don't work for people. They make sprawling suburbs that aren't sustainable. They are noisy expensive requirements, and the idea of tying my identity to one is fucking strange. They are noisy polluters and take up infrastructure money and space, more and more as they get more and more bloated in size.

Oh, and they kill pedestrians and kids especially.

My bike, I love.

Maybe a trip to a police station for eyesight and reaction tests instead of a licence re-do (which really isn't fair considering the state of many youngsters' driving)?

A necessary evil.

Especially in places with limited to zero public transport. We barely use our car - less than 10k kms in 3 years ownership ! Though we rent cars a lot when back in Europe / travel in Asia.

Personally we are using trains more and more (because they are fantastic in China) even in the UK where the standard is many times lower, we use buses and the underground in London 99% of the time (Uber, Freenow, Bolt for the other 1%) and when going North I take the train to Manchester Airport and hire a car from there, or to Newcastle and ditto when visiting friends, it's much more relaxing, costs about the same and is more environmentally friendly.

Let's face it blokes under 30 are about 99% of the problem. No matter how technically shit a lot of women are at driving they're not doing 80 down the A6. If you just forced all of them to have those black box things you'd probably solve the issue.

I love cars but I'm with you on the effect on towns and cities. It's so depressing how many British towns are ruined by ring roads where you just get this constant drone of traffic and all the associated pollution and danger and ugliness. For no apparent reason - most towns can be walked across in 10 minutes. I'd love to make congestion charges nationwide.

Yeah I think this makes sense. No relation to this incident, but I also think drivers should re-do their test every 10/15 years. Far too many people on the road who are simply unfit to drive.

Most road users are wankers. Loads don’t even use indicators on roundabouts. Middle lane driving pricks annoy the shit out of me.

I’d happily have 3 strikes and you’re out when caught doing these things. Retake your test.
