Maybe Robbo was better choice, but Kerkez was not awful and maybe some excellent inside runs that nobody saw or were willing to pass.
TBH I thought we were more than a little unlucky. That doesn't excuse the performances of some players but if you hit the post 3 times, have Salah miss the goal entirely from 6m out and Gakpo head over from 4m out with the goal at his mercy ... we should have won.
That said the defence is always likely to concede - I thought that as soon as we equalised and prayed it wouldn't be so. See I know there's no such thing as God but still I prayed for some luck.
As for the players. FFS Slot just drop Salah he's utter shite and upsets the balance of the team every match. Wirtz needs to start - we all knew Macca wasn't fit / on-form and he was MIA in the first half.
Kerkez is a worry I'll concede. He's like a rabbit in the headlights - just trying toooo hard I think. But when even VvD is making bad errors we know we're in the shit.
It'll turn around and Isak and Wirtz will come good. I just worry it will be too late for the PL. Oh well we'll have to just settle for the CL then.

Agree, but what was interesting was how much better we were in the press and not giving up counters in the last 30 minutes with all the attackers on the field.

That was on VvD again - it was his area of the pitch and he was closer to the near post than his own ! He had time to get back there. I can't blame Konate for not covering the back post.

Slot has been very poor tactically this season. I saw the team sheet and knew we'd struggle today.
He's got into his head that he needs to completely change the identity of this team from a Klopp team to the kind of possession football he wants to play, and it's a mess. Especially given that he made some very clever tactical tweaks to Klopp's team to lead us to a title.
Frankly, the solution is just to revert to what he did last year. You simply can't start a front 3 with Gakpo-Isak-Salah and expect the press the work. Everything starts there because if we don’t pressure up front, we can’t play with a high line and the midfield gets easily bypassed.
The 4-man press should be Isak-Ekitike-Szob-Salah just like it was Gakpo/Nunez-Diaz-Szob-Salah last year.
Ekitike and Szob are our two most athletic workhorses and should be used as such. Isak and Salah should start out wide off-the-ball.
I’d also drop Macca and move Wirtz to full-time LCM. Macca has been dreadful this year, and Wirtz looks better when he’s on the ball more.
Gakpo should not start in the first XI - he’s best suited being an efficient impact forward who’s rotated. As a starter against well-drilled defences, he’s highly predictable, very poor at combination play and breaks down all attacks on the left converting them to cut-in and shoot plays every single time.
You fix the final-third press and the midfield will start sorting itself out, and Salah and Isak will get more chances in space in the final third.

I posted about 10 days ago that Slot finally had a break between games to work with the analysts on what has been going wrong, that prior to that the games had been coming so thick and fast that it was hard to find time in between to re-work the plan. Fuck knows what he's been doing the last two weeks because that was absolute gash. At times in the first half we had 4-5 players sitting just a few yards outside their 18-yard box, but there was no plan to get the ball to them. I don't think I saw a single loose ball all game that broke to a red shirt. That's either epic-level bad luck or poor positional play. That's on the manager and his system. It wasn't until Szobo started inverting from right back (yeah, I know) in the last 20 minutes or so that we had someone in that space trying to dictate the play from deep. By then it was too late.
Isak has to score that one on one. Cody has to score the header from Frimpong's cross, and possibly not Darwin his other efforts onto the woodwork. Hugo looked great for 5 minutes (but too ambitious with his efforts on goal) and then totally disappeared.

I'm not Jones's biggest fan but he was good when he came on, at least he understood the importance of the game.

Kerkez was definitely told to stay in his own half until the subs were made. He was bombing down the wing early in the second half and looked like someone had tazed him when he hit the halfway line. It's not him, it's what he's being told to do.
What game were you watching? 3 shots from outside the box today. And they are low percentage even if spectacular when they go in.
I'm curious if he's been told by the top men that he needs to start Salah or the 'optics' will look bad in them and Salah's contract.

Last season I was wondering how Slot would perform when the shit hits the fan. It didn't happen at all last season. It's happened now and we'll find out over the next month if he is the real deal.
To be fair, his plan with the forwards nearly worked. They scored a scrappy set piece that was gifted to them thank to a poor pass that led to a corner. I think.
We had Sonny chances to win this game. The stats are clear in this regard, and having warhcied the game, it absolutely felt the same.
