You see, there's where I think it has use. Before xG, you had people saying we had 10 shots, so that must be better than having 2 shots. Using xG you can see it's the same for your case, and even go further to say the problem in one case in not being able to create high enough quality shots, so maybe you're not working the ball enough. And in the other, it's high quality but not enough of them, so maybe you're over doing it. It generally needs to be used in conjunction with other stats too, but at a high level it can give a good idea of your chances in a match.
