Yeah. I'm repeating myself now, but the values promoted within the broad national football conversation (ie 'passion' - which means running around a lot, steaming into tackles and other stuff described tediously as 'Churchillian') mean that players who play intelligently are criminally under-appreciated.

Exactly. I think that's also why it so long for our own fans to warm up to Allen.

I always thought it was fairly obvious he would develop into a decent player.and was surprised by the views on here.

Now he's the next Captain of the club and becoming a joy to watch in the middle of the park. Watching Jordan Henderson celebrate a goal is one of the finest sights in football, IMO.

To be fair, I'm not sure too many fans (me included) were that patient with him early on.

He's a good reminder of the need to give young players time to grow into the side.
