He was eased into the team the season before, then in his first full season as a starter the more he played the worse he looked. Ergo - he doesn't have much potential. He's a fall back player for when others are injured because he's simply not good enough.
Compare that to a some other young fullbacks we've had lately - Flanagan had to play a lot more than we expected due to injuries, did he look shit the more he played. No. Why ? Because he's good. Same goes for Kelly.

I dont think he wouldve signed a long term deal if he hadnt been confident that he could maintain a place in the side. Even with kelly and flanagan.....johnson on top of his game is still our best right back! I'd still expect him us to sign a left back too! Maybe its not all about england for glenjo....but who knows he might even take ashely coles place if he were to remain at right back 8)

I dont think he wouldve signed a long term deal if he hadnt been confident that he could maintain a place in the side. Even with kelly and flanagan.....johnson on top of his game is still our best right back! I'd still expect him us to sign a left back too! Maybe its not all about england for glenjo....but who knows he might even take ashely coles place if he were to remain at right back 8)

The bright side was with the ball at his feet he had reasonably good skill and technique and rather weirdly for a slowish player he could also beat a man going forward. IMO better than Konchesky.... when does he return?
