I have a feeling this has been talked about before so I went looking for another thread on this. The one I found was out of date so here's a new topic. Mods feel free to merge if you want.

Just occurred to me that he's still on loan. A quick check on wikipedia says he's scored 8 goals and got 3 assists in 23 appearances. That really isn't bad at all. Does anyone think he could do a job back at Liverpool? Or has that ship well and truly sailed? If so how much do you think we could realistically get for him? I suppose he's just turned 30 so maybe 6-7mill... I always liked him and felt he would come good in the end. He's got to be a better option than Maxi surely?....

I wouldn't mind trying him again before dismissing him for good. He never looked fit when he was here and at least that's not the case now. We need more invention in and around the box.

He should be able to do same job as Maxi even better. But then again Maxi spend most time at the bench or in the stands, so I am not sure if that is what we need?

We need a step up from what we have to fill the "wide" positions in a 4-2- 3-1 if that is what we want to play. Pace and movement is crucial. Beller standard is more than acceptable. Imagine Bellers, Suarez and Tevez in example buzzing around behind a revitalized Andy?

I'd definitely give the lad another chance. It didn't go well the first time around, but he's obviously a good player.

Yeah me too. He's bound to be in much better condition than when he left. A couple of years ago if you thought you could pick him up for 6mill - You'd bite their hand off. He's a clever player that can create and score (when fit) Get him back!

we'd get nothing like £7m for him - especially given his salary - and i personally think Maxi is much the better option.

Ill just accept whatever we get for him and Aquilani and move on...

What do you think we'd get for the pair? 10mill? That would be a poor return but I guess you win some and you lose some.

10m sounds about right, but i don't see how they fit in our squad. It didn't work out for them before, it probably wont work out in the future too....but they are good players when things work in their favour. What we paid for them is already a sunk cost. We can't afford to invest more time o them as they are not really young to hope that it would all work out...

How is Aqua getting on?

Im still gutted Ming left us, its hardly done wonders for his career either

I think Aqua is in and out of the team - Debatable whether they will pick up the option to buy him. He's made 15 appearances and scored 1 goal with a few assists. That might tell only part of the story though. I remember a Milan fan told me the fans love him so I dunno.

As for the Ming comment - It reminds me of another player who went there round about the same time... :🙂

Injured. Hasn't been in the matchday squad since 20 Dec. He is currently on 15 appearances - 10 short of the agreed trigger for the sale of the player. There are 18 league games and a handful of cup games left for him to chip in with the other 10 appearances.

Won't be surprised if they stopped him at 24 appearances and tried to negotiate a better price though...

People have short memories. He was so shit for us it defied belief. Good for him that he is doing ok in an inferior league, but he is not what we need.

He was unlucky and unfit. Getting sent off in his first game didn't help and then injuries on top of that. Do you remember the Joe Cole from a few years ago? He was a superb player. If he can find that form he's be an asset for sure. Lille are actually a good team so he's done well to keep his place. I'd give him another chance but I doubt the club will.

The Juve fans liked Aquilani as well. Unfortunately I can't see that making much difference - he's clearly desperate to stay in Italy, so any Italian club is going to play hardball with us over the price and will look elsewhere if we don't accept whatever mingy offer they come up with.

As far as Joey Cole himself is concerned, didn't he more or less accept in an interview that things just haven't worked out at LFC? He could still do someone a good job, but I doubt it's going to be us.

90k plus a week on a multiple year deal, and some think we are going to get 6m+ for him???? Insane.

Also, by pulling blind stats, aren't Maxis figures at the end of last year more than comparable to Coles?

Yeah, I don't think he likes it here, and he hasn't given him much reason to miss him.

It's a shame, I was quite optimistic about signing him.

Joe Cole's ship has sailed. He may have been unfit and injured but simply not good enough for us. Maxi has proven that he's better despite spending so much time on the bench.

Good luck in France or at QPR!

If West Ham get promoted he's nailed on to move there - they're stupid enough to pay him those wages.

Yeah it's a shame I guess. I really thought he would be good for us but it was not to be. I wonder if Lille are going to buy him.

Let's be honest - there's a reason Chelsea let him go on a free and it's not that he was holding out for for more money or a dream move to us.

same deal as aqua, take whatever someone offers and move on. however if no one comes in for him in the summer than he is someone to make up the numbers in uefa and the CC.

JOE COLE EAGER TO QUIT LIVERPOOL FOR LILLE STAY

He took the unusual step, for an Englishman at least, of turning his back on the glitz and glamour of the Premier League to rebuild his career in the north of France last summer. Eight months on, he hasn't looked back.
And now as his season-long loan with Lille draws to a close, Joe Cole has spoken of his desire to remain at the club for the long-term.
Cole, 30, has enjoyed an impressive debut campaign in Ligue 1, becoming an integral part of Rudi Garcia's side, who despite surrendering their league crown remain on course for Champions League football next season.
The former Chelsea man, who joined Lille after a dismal first season with Liverpool which was punctuated by injury, has slowly but surely recaptured his best form, netting eight goals in 35 games for the French club.
His form has been such that big-spending Paris Saint Germain, now managed by his former boss at Chelsea, Carlo Ancelotti, are rumoured to be interesting in luring him to the French capital.
But Cole is taking no notice of interest from elsewhere and has set his sights on continuing his love affair with Lille, despite admitting he misses the "atmosphere" of the Premier League.
"I have been made very welcome here and I would like to (stay at Lille), but the decision isn't mine," Cole told L'Equipe. "I've spoken to no one at Liverpool. I am waiting for news from them."
Meanwhile, Cole has also spoken of his hope that team-mate Eden Hazard opts to the stay with the club next season, despite the much sought after Belgian winger admitting he wants a "new challenge" abroad with the Premier League his prefered destination.
"I hope that he [Hazard] will stay at Lille," said Cole. "But he will be a success anywhere he ll play"
As for the Premier League title race, Cole is very much in the red corner, tipping Manchester United to win a 20th league crown despite the money lavished on their city neighbours and title rivals City.
Comparisons have been made between City and Cole's former club Chelsea, who have also benefitted from having a billionaire owner in recent years, but the former West Ham prodigy believes there is a key difference.
"United will win. It will be long before City can compete. Money has been there for the past two or three years. We had this at Chelsea but we have won our first title because of the atmosphere, the players and the manager which were good."

I doubt they'l be fit to pay his £100,000 a week wages so I wouldn't be surprised to see him back as I can't see us subsidising it like we did this season. Unless we give him a free which wouldn't surprise me.

guess this is a perfect example of a bosman gone wrong . His huge wages hinder a sale and as everyone knows you want him off the wage bill they won't even bother to bid a few mil so you end up giving him a free .

Bar bellamy you'd have to say we're pretty shit at picking up players on frees .
