Joe Cole - Thoughts?

JOE COLE FROZEN OUT BY EVERY PREMIER LEAGUE CLUB AS CAREER REACHES NEW CROSSROADS

Joe Cole faces another crossroads in his career at the end of a season of reinvention at Lille.

But The Sweeper understands that the Liverpool player is unlikely to return to England when his loan spell finishes.

Cole has been told that there is not a single Premier League club who have expressed an interest in signing him, with his employers Liverpool among those doubtful whether he can still be a force in England’s top tier.

It is believed that West Ham would be keen on making a swoop for their former captain but only if they are successful in getting promoted from the Championship to the Premier League.

“At the moment it looks like Joe will stay in France,” explained a source close to the player. “He has an option on his loan contract for another season at Lille. There is not a single Premier League club who have made an offer, although West Ham could be in for him if they go up.

“The problem is the Premier League clubs think the pace of the game in France is that much slower and it will be hard for Joe to adapt back to the more physical style.”

Cole is not 31 until November but he has been troubled by knee problems in recent years and, while he has featured in 38 of Lille’s 43 matches in all competitions, he has been a substitute in 11 of them and is frequently withdrawn before the end of games.

Nevertheless, the England international has made a reasonable impact in his French adventure, scoring six goals and helping his team to third in Ligue 1, which would be enough to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Speaking earlier this week, Cole said he "would like to stay" at Lille and is "happy here" in France with his family but it is understood that he returns home to London every three weeks.

Lille currently pay around two-thirds of his salary, worth around £110,000-a-week.

£110k per week for one hundred and four weeks.
That is almost £11.5m
Free transfers are great

"Next one Joe. What's 2+2?"

"Errrrrrrr"

Will he be given a clean slate under Rodgers? From their days at Chelsea (although Rodgers was primarily with the youth and reserves team) + Cole's capability of fitting into his system etc.

Why should he get a clean slate? Why not just judge him on what he's done in the past couple of years. Which has been shite.

No I don't think he will be. Mourinho didn't particularly like Cole either. I think Sterling, Adorjan and Suso will be delighted by Rodgers' appointment though.

Rodgers will be able to have a good look at those players who aren't on international duty over the next month, so early pre-season is as good a time as any for these talented youngsters to impress and then take their chance in the friendlies or the Europa League qualifiers.

It's interesting how he seems very motivated to come back and giving it a go here . Yes , Yes , he might be wanting to keep his huge wages but it's a better attitude then lots of other shite we've had .
Guess it all comes down to those wages , i'd be tempted to give him a try or have him as a squad player but you can't justify that sort of role with those wages .

I think he's only motivated because he's running out of options ! Not one other EPL club in for him. We can't get out of this one .. let him stay in Lille.

EDIT. Oh you and fucked up your title winning prediction royally didn't you Coley !

"United will win. It will be long before City can compete. Money has been there for the past two or three years. We had this at Chelsea but we have won our first title because of the atmosphere, the players and the manager which were good."

I want him gone. High wages and on the decline. Can take his undersized shorts and constantly open mouth while playing a game somewhere else.

He's arguably more talented than players we have but that isn't really saying much.

The best option here is to sign some good players.

I don't really think he had a decent chance, to show what he could do, he was in and iff the bench and always playing catch up after his injuries and ban. Did I mention Spearing?

regards

He is better than fucking Downing who will be on a decent wedge too.
I would give him another go to be honest.

regards

Joe Cole's certainly a more talented player than Downing, but he's not a replacement for him. I know his starting position has often been out wide, but that's more because managers in this country haven't really known what to do with him than because it's his true position. If we do fetch him back and give him another go, I hope we find a way of playing him somewhere in the centre, because that's where he needs to play to get the best out of him.

Joe is all set for a return. I really don't want him but he sounds motivated and has something to prove. So give the lad a run and lets hope its a spectacular improvement on what we have already seen.

Not that it's saying much, but I do think there's more chance of his return working out than there ever would be with Aquilani.
