I get the impression that Adrian's role in the squad is more as the guy in the nets on the training ground doing loads of work while the outfield players are doing training drills (and the other keepers are training with the specialist coaches).
I remember reading something recently, in an international context, which talked about how the number 3 keeper was an unsung hero in the 23-man squad. The number 1 obviously did the business in games, the number 3 worked hard with training drills and the number 2 keeper was basically a fifth wheel unless the number 1 got injured.
So we either promote Adrian to number 2 or get a replacement number 2 in. I'd prefer the latter, partly because I'm not a fan of what Adrian has brought to first team football when he has played, but also because I think we should look for a longer-term solution at number 2. And if Adrian is doing a good job in training and he's happy with that number 3 roles (which he seems to be) then he should stay in that role.
