League cup - Lincoln City away

I don't see why Brewster would Play; for Chris Wilder to come out over the weekend and confirm talks are underway you'd imagine they're atleast advanced and therefore unlikely he plays surely ?
You never know, negotiations might be ongoing but we don't make a deal. Look at Werner.

Klopp never came out and said anything like what wilder came out with , something's defo happening with sheffield utd and maybe even other side's competing for him so I can't see him being in he squad let alone getting minutes

Damn. I'd forgotten all about Brewster - I guess we'll find out if the process is really underway for a loan/transfer. Must start if he's not on a train to wherever.

In these LC / early FAC matches Klopp often squeezes square pegs into round holes just to give them a game. I've no problem with that, just want to see them on the pitch. However, Origi an average player ? He's far more established and experienced than most of that team and a few classes above Lincoln's defenders no doubt. A spine of Adrian, Grujic and Origi gives some stability. Minamino too of course.

Origi is a purple patch striker. He's not consistent enough to be thought of in anyway shape or form, part of a "spine".

Also the spine you've mentioned might have played, 1(?) Friendly together? I don't think subbing out a languid origi for a much more enthusiastic minamino is end of the world.

I've no doubt origi will play, because klopp wants to hurt me over loving taki.

Klopp didn't even talk about thiago when there was photos of him at melwood.

Whether wilder is similar in that regard I don't know.

Not bothered by the competition as a whole, but there's far more reason to be interested this year in terms of squad development. Koumeito, Jones, Elliott, Minamino, Williams, Tsimika, and Jota are all exciting to watch.

Lincoln has won their first 2 games of the season - 2-0 over Oxford and 2-1 of MK Dones. Scully has 2 goals, 2 assists in 3 games for Lincoln. I still want to believe.

I'm bothered, I think it's about time we won a domestic cup again to be honest. If it disrupted the league or CL later then I might have second thoughts, but for now I would like to think (as you have) that our actual squad is more able to cope and the likes of Minamino and co would figure, rather than a forward from the reserves who ultimately won't cut it. We have enough of a good mix of quality on the fringes and quality coming through to put out a good side that should do a job.

But I'm also dead against playing deadwood that are on their way out. If they don't figure in our plans, it's a pointless exercise in blocking players who do have a chance of a future.

Agreed Id rather see first teamers + those who are on the fringes and need the game time to stay sharp versus the players we have no desires to hold on to.

Yeah, I'd like to win a cup now. The FA Cup would be better than the bullshit League Cup, but whatever.

I'd play a diamond because I think that's actually best for our back-up front 3.

-------------------Adrian
Neco----Gomez-----Phillips-----Tsimikas
------------------Thiago
---------Milner------------Jones
-----------------Minamino
----------Jota-------------Origi

---------------- Adrian
Neco-- Gomez -- Koumetio -- Tsimikas
----Jones -- Milner --- Elliot
-----------------Minamino
---------- Origi -------Brewster

Good shout, I was thinking along these lines with Minamino playing that role, not sure I'd play Origi though unless he is actually staying.

I wouldn't risk Thiago. He's injury prone, and the last think we need is some League One player trying to make a name for himself by taking him out. Also, he got some playing time yesterday. Oxo desperately needs game time having missed "preseason", if he's ready for another comeback. Grujic might also need some time (even if it's only to put him in the shop window).

I think I'd rest Gomez for another game too. No point rushing him back for a meaningless game. We are a bit short of options though, so Koumetio might have to play.

Otherwise, that team would be my choice.

EDIT: I forgot Elliott. I'd play him for Orgi or Jota.

Dont think there is any need to play Thiago, but if he needs more minutes under his belt I'd have him on the bench.
But playing away to a League One club isnt the place for him in all honesty.

Adrian

Neco Gomez Koumetio Tsimkias

Milner Jones

Elliott Minamino Jota

Origi

Read an interview with their captain Bridcutt or something, former Sunderland player.
Basically said that they won't be up for it.
Ideally we'd rest all of our available first team CB's (Gomez, Van Dijk and Fabs), although the potential of playing Koumetio and Van den Berg does scare me a bit.

Me neither, I like the look of the other lad though, despite his recent gaff. He just has an assurance and quality about him.

Van der Berg has been looking sharper in pre-season than at any point last season. Still think he's a bit behind Phillips and Koumetio in the pecking order, but he can play if necessary.

I'd like van den berg to get a game. You're not going to develop at CB unless you play

I'd like to think we should have enough in attack for lincoln. Not like we're at this level anymore

Agger doesn't deserve that.

Can imagine him literally standing there knowing there's nothing he can do to save that game

That's OK if he's got the right basic quality about him. I'm just not sure he does have that, but Rurik seems relatively optimistic and he's clearly seen more of the lad than I have, so fair dos.

Coming in as a 17 year old CB is an impossible task. Majority of education is on the training pitch. Least other positions (bar gk) are more forgiving of errors.

Pre season he looked fine, and if you're not going to give him a run out against Lincoln, may as well sell him

Just read that the Leyton Orient are suffering from "the plague" and Spurs are going to be given a bye to the next round.

To be fair, things were so dire in those days that was our best Eleven.

Not worth a new thread and LC related. Before their game vs. Hull.

Team manager Moyes plus two players, Diop and Cullen, test positive for virus; all three were 'asymptomatic'
