So you can only be a striker if you are 6’ 7” like Crouch or it’s fine to be just 5’ 9” like Salah?
If I were to make a case for "short" defenders, names like Baresi, Cannavaro, to some extent Thiago Silva who is 1.83 m tall, come to mind.
Not fucking Carra.

simply restating the forum staple that Carragher was just under 6ft, after about to pages of debate.

The manc guy who’s injured is a short arse but was actually decent last season (obviously injured this)

Key thing is height helps but some excel despite that

That Fulham defensive midfielder is a top player but he'll be 29 at the start of next season. So, how long's he going to be good for? And what would you pay for that? It would have to be lowballing really and they aren't going to take that.

Whatever we paid for Endo

Bayern had a deal for £60m ish on deadline day that they fucked up. So about that I’d say.

They aren't going to sell him for 18M or whatever we paid for Endo. Not with Bayern etc. sniffing round. Puts him in the 'don't bother' category which is a shame as he's great.
I agree, but we're not in the business of signing "older" players unless they're free like Milner or we're desperate, like Endo. Or if it's a goalkeeper I guess.
Also we have like 8 midfielders already and a RB who wants to play in midfield.

Yeah but that’s you going vintage Full Modo.

But no defensive midfields of that quality.

Look, I agree, it's a non-starter. But he's there or thereabouts the best in the Prem at the moment and most of the other (foreign) contenders are unknown quantities.

But yeah, £60M, no chance.

We have somewhat of a situation in midfield at the moment.

Endo 30 (DM)
Bajcetic 19 (DM/CM)
Macca 24 (CM)
Szobo 23 (CM/AM/LRW)
Gravy 21 (CM)
Elliott 20 (CM/AM/RW)
Jones 22 (CM)
Thiago 32 (DM/CM)

Then there's Trent 25 (RB/???)

Out on loan:
Morton (CM)

We can only start 3 players in midfield and we currently have 8. Imo we only have one specialist DM in the squad and that's Endo. Bajcetic isn't proven, but it could where he ends up. The rest aren't really the typical defensive midfielder, they're more like playmakers.

Thiago leaves this summer, that's one problem solved, although skill wise he's probably our best midfielder.

So now we're down to 7. Trent apparently wants to play further forward. I don't see Klopp giving Trent a place in midfield this season, but if he does give him a position in midfield next summer, someone will have to be benched, the question is who?

The only way we sign a new DM is if we sell Endo. Thats how I see it.
We'll still have 4-5 players on the sidelines looking to get time on the pitch and that might cause some issues. Cause who among those 23+ aged players would be fine with being a squad player?

Well, Endo is a squad player, no better.
Badger, no idea, he's injured too often.
Apart from a worldie, MacAllister has been average to good, no better.
Slobber is ace, we know that.
Gravy looks good but is by no means a settled starter yet.
Elliot is fits and starts.
Jones was our best MF second half of last season and, when he's fit, is still a starter for me (or thereabouts)
Thiago I couldn't give a shit about
Morton fuck knows
Play Trent where he wants

So the numbers are there, I'm not sure the strategy is.

I dont remember using those words, but I do think a tall CB is best.

A little harsh on Bajcetic, and most of the rest are early 20s and look pretty tidy, particularly Elliott who has all the attributes to be a superstar in a few years. I’m very happy with what we have, particularly when you look at the majority of our competitors

January/Summer target list (in no particular order)

Main #6 - Locatelli/Herrera
Youth prospect - Zambrano/Bardghji
RW (long term) Bakayoko/Gonzalez/Malen
Main CB - Todibo/Schlotterbeck/Theate

It also depends who’s actually available in Jan.

you got to figure that anyone that’s at AFCON or the Asian Cup will be too focused on playing.

I still like the idea of Andre at DM.

I think the defence won’t get touched until the summer.

I think we’ll have a quiet window.

Klopp has ruled out a CB signing, and you can see that with only 3 playing in MF and with Thiago and Spanish Naby to return he isn't going to be thinking about adding further MFs regardless how much I protest.
I could see him trying to get a RW, even though on my list its the position I worry about the least.
90% we sign no-one
70% if we do, its an attacker

I tend to think of things the same way but another perspective is that Real Madrid have no probs benching Tchouaméni, Camavinga, Valverda et al.

Jurgen Klopp described Victor Boniface (ex-Union SG) as a "really interesting striker" during Thursday's presser. Boniface (22 ) now has 14 goals, 7 assists in 21 games at Bayer Leverkusen. #LFC in market for new forward in the long term (Maximilian Beier a known target).

Fwiw, I've seen Boniface play over here for Bodø/Glimt and he's a fantastic prospect. Major red flag with the knee injuries he's had though.

I imagine we’re interested in at least half of the Leverkusen side (and their manager in the longer term)..

French outlet Le10Sport reports LFC interested in Lenny Yoro.

Yes, please. This kid will be fantastic.

That's probably why we're interested, we checked out his wiki profile and thought "here's a young player we can fuck the career up of through injuries"
