Liverpool related transfer speculation

Guehi is not going to sit on the bench and wait for Virgil to retire. Not many decent players will. I'm guessing we're stuck with Gomez who will no doubt be injured when we need him. Don't see an obvious solution.
It depends who else is in for him. He may look at Virgil's age and think that'll mean opportunities, look at Konate and think he may leave and think playing for us is the best bet for titles over the next 2-3 seasons.
It should be a complex decision that would depend on numerous factors but he would know there will be opportunities.

We should maybe suggest that Guehi sits tight for a year and joins on a free next season when/if we lose Konate on a free.

He could take secret language lessons to learn Scouse and then delight everyone at the signing press conference by taking his earpiece out and speaking fluent scouse / though any questions he can answer in his normal London accent.
I read he’s an LFC fan so that could be a good option.

We'll be lucky if we get an apple, a button and a piece of string from an Italian club.
They've got Kvara money to play with. But yeah, will probably be loan moves with an obligation to buy if they both start 600 games, win player of the year and Vesuvius erupts and destroys whatever remains of Pompeii.

Bayer Leverkusen to step up Jarell Quansah pursuit

Liverpool may look to replace 22-year-old if he leaves for German side with club holding an interest in Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi

Jarell Quansah of Liverpool during the EFL Carabao Cup Final.

Quansah has fallen down the pecking order at Liverpool

The two clubs have kept negotiations separate, but with Wirtz set to undergo a medical on Friday to seal his potential £116million move to Anfield the expectation is that Leverkusen will maintain dialogue over Quansah.

Liverpool are not pushing the England Under-21 to the exit door, but hold an interest in Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi.

Quansah remains well regarded at the Merseyside club and signed a new deal last season. However, a lack of first-team minutes — he was afforded just 488 in the Premier League — means he is considering his future.

Leverkusen are guaranteed £100million from the sale of Wirtz to Liverpool, a further £16million is linked to add-ons, and Quansah has been identified as a player who could improve the new head coach Erik ten Hag’s squad.

It would take a sizable fee, perhaps towards £40million, for Liverpool to consider selling the 22-year-old, who is at present at the Under-21 European Championship with Lee Carsley’s England squad. Leverkusen — who have also sold Jeremie Frimpong to Liverpool for £29.5million — would clearly try and sign him for less.

Liverpool hold an interest in Guéhi if they need to strengthen at centre back

Liverpool’s centre-back options feel in something of a state of flux, notwithstanding the club captain Virgil van Dijk signing a new two-year contract. Ibrahima Konaté is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract and talks are yet to bring a breakthrough on an extension. Furthermore, there were reports in Spain last weekend that Real Madrid were interested in signing the France international on a free transfer next summer. In addition, Joe Gomez did not play as much as he wanted last season which was in part due to injury.

As a result, Liverpool’s hierarchy will have been considering what options could be available to strengthen at centre back if required. The England international Guéhi, who turns 25 next month, has one year to run on his existing deal at Palace.

Guéhi is liked by Liverpool, with circumstances around Quansah, and others, likely to determine whether any interest develops now, or they continue to monitor his situation given he would be available on a free transfer in 12 months.

The uncertainty over Guéhi has resulted in Palace opening talks with Sporting Lisbon over a potential move for the Ivory Coast international Ousmane Diomande. The 21-year-old is valued at around £40million and that would represent a club-record deal, outstripping the £32million paid to Liverpool for Christian Benteke in 2016.

Guehi is young, calm and good with his feet but he plays LCB. I always had him as Virgils ultimate replacement.

Virgil plays every minute for a reason, so I don't know who would want to come in for odd minutes here or there, especially in a world cup year.

Maybe Guehi can play RCB too but it would be new to him, I think. We need better cover than Quansah and Gomez but buying backups is maybe harder than finding starters.

Little know fact - Nathan Collins Dad was a trialist at Liverpool in the late 80.s early 90s.

He played for Cherrier, I played for Home Farm, and he was highly thought of, also as a Center Half

I'm not sure Nathan is really good enough. Any here's his ole man!
He trialed with Liverpool from 88-92, so there's a good chance he's Liverpool fan too

I chatted with a Home Farm teammate, who was there too at the same time last September.
He said there was zero structure, and you're in England no family at 17.
The Irish kids would end up doing what they know best - drinking.
Little or no effort to optimize the trialists by the club.
Not much arm around the shoulder. Digs and training. that was all they provided.
Oh so different now.

A shame, but he never kicked on as much as I hoped he would. It feels like slot had his card marked from that Ipswich game

Don't think there's much in it myself. Branthwaite is taller, Guehi seems more like a VVD Rolls Royce type of defender.

If we can get Guehi in for the same price as Quansah, that's incredible business.

If we get Guehi for the same fee then that’s a great deal. But Branthwait is a better defender, 2 years younger and 6’5.

Guehi as our 3rd CB is okay I guess
