fair but he’s always giving the ball away and 32
That's because he wants to kick lumps out of the guy he passed the ball to...
Okay, more seriously now... if we bring age into the equation, then there's Bajcetic, McConnell and Nyoni, who're all 2 to 4 years (Nyoni) younger than Morton, and who have done reasonably well when inserted in games in the past. So there's an argument to be made that we could keep one or two of them over Morton instead.
Not that I've a problem with Morton, it's just that frankly, I find it hard nowadays to maintain interest in a player's prospects of making it here when he's been out on loan for consecutive seasons. I've come to the realisation that guys who go down this path already have their fate at the club determined, so to contemplate them returning to compete for a place in the squad is likely not good use of time.
As far as I recall, there isn't any instance of an Academy player being retained at the club after consecutive season loans. Does Morton appear special enough to buck the trend? Granted, I haven't kept track of how he did at the clubs he went to (Blackburn, Hull), but based on limited looks, I don't really have the impression that he's a tier better than the other youngsters mentioned above.
Conversely, for the Academy products who went on to play regularly for the seniors -- if we look beyond the outstanding guys like Sterling and Trent who never went on loan, even a squad player like Curtis Jones never went on loan. Bradley went on loan for a season. Elliott -- also a season, and that because of the deal we did with Fulham. Fabinho? Two loans... gone.
Endo has a body of work here in 2 seasons that I trust. Plus, Japan has 3 years' life expectancy edge over the UK, so Endo is strictly speaking, only 29 years old in the West.
