He’s an Italian CB though…Italian though. "The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results" [Albert Einstein].
No thanks.

He then spent 1998–99 with Everton, where he was sent off three times in just 27 games

Oh, there's no question that that would normally be a positive recommendation - they've produced a large number of great players in all positions but especially at the back. The unfortunate fact though is that Italian players and LFC don't mix. I don't know how or why not, but given our history with them it seems futile to me to deny that.

It's possibly just a coincidence.
Tbf there were huuuuge red flags with each of those (maybe not dossena) prior to them signingThat many times though? Aquilani, Balotelli, Dossena, Padelli, Paletta, now Chiesa (and those are just the ones I remember)?

Paletta is Argentinian
Yep, and Padelli was a throwaway signing never expected to succeed, Balotelli was a known mentalist, Chiesa a known crock etc. It's not like anyone was massively shocked they didn't work.
If I had to guess I'd say the issue with Italian players in England is 80% their league. Although I don't watch it anymore it was always painfully slow and tactical and they obviously bred players to thrive in it. eg you hardly ever seem to see a fast Italian player lol. But they must exist! There will BE Italian players who are built to play in the PL. You just have to be extra cautious about them.
Italians don’t tend to do well anywhere. I think there’s only been one notable Italian to win the Spanish league. Then there is Donearunner at PSG. It’s hard to think of many others.
Exactly, the best Italians usually don't leave Italy.Zambrotta was ok at Barca
Cannavaro at Real.
Ravanelli was awesome at boro no?
I can't think of many others - they tend to stay at home if they're great.
Edit - thanks Fab - Zola and Vialli at Chelsea
Zola tailed off from 2000.Has there been a successful Italian in the premier league this century? Zola kind of overlapped
Are you sitting down for this? It’s going to make you feel old. That was 27 to 30 years ago.
Looking it up made me feel old.
That goal by Dossena at Old toilet to make it 4... we can forgive him surely... and Chiesa... I refuse to give up on Chiesa... BELIEVEThat many times though? Aquilani, Balotelli, Dossena, Padelli, Paletta, now Chiesa (and those are just the ones I remember)?
