Liverpool related transfer speculation

It wouldn’t be back up though - that’s the point I was trying to make - minimum 8 CL games, the domestic cups and league - thats a minimum of 48 games (likely more) and Isak can’t play all of them - Ekitike could easily get a fair few games and provide competition to Isak.

Additionally, if you believe the latest rumours it’s €80m, which is a little less.

Given the signed Elanga, it might be one of the wide left players they cash in on, with Ekitike capable of filling in there too.

Come on, let's just call a spade a spade. Back up, rotation, squad blah blah... it doesn't matter. Unless they play two up top, he's second fiddle to a fit Isak.

You're assuming they will play 433 with 1 number 9.

They could quite conceivably play 442 with two high wingers feeding both Isak and Ekitike.

And I didn't say they wouldn't make a sale. But they'd try and make a pure profit first imo.

The 442/424 thing could work but they're 2 very similar strikers, and then they'll need another one to be backup to that as well.

The midfield is their strongest area and a cornerstone to how they play so I can't imagine they'll just rip up the formation and lose midfield strength. Joelinton is the obvious one to drop, but then you slightly blunt tonali. Having the 2 wingers stay wide, as they're likely to do it theres 2 strikers in the centre, means you're then blunting what elanga and Gordon offer of direct surging runs in to the box as that area now becomes very congested.

It's more likely (for me) Ekitike is the backup, with a long term plan to replace Isak.

Notwithstanding the Nunez sale not yet looking close enough to move quickly, Newcastle’s move for Ekitike will flush out our interest if he’s really a top target for us.

I don’t think Isak is going anywhere this summer.

Doesn’t look like Ekitike is the top choice for us as a new nr 9.

Think it’s more likely Gordon leaves.

Alvarez won’t be of the same interest imho after we signed Wirtz. Need another type of striker profile.

I dunno, he ticks a lot of boxes for a striker we'd like. I think the interest cooled because we can't be arsed negotiating with Madrid after they slapped on a 160m sticker.

Newcastle’s foundation for success has been the 3 man midfield with Tonali, Bruno and Joelinton.

He did, but not now I think. We need another type of striker profile.

The striker market was shite before the window started, and a handful of the decent ones have already moved/in the process of moving

Started to get the fear that we are gonna have wirtz as the false 9 for a year

It's all very quiet, which is what I find weird. Same for a centre-back, despite having already sold Quansah.

I think that’s partly because of us wanting to shift some players first but also because of what happened to Jota.
No doubt the noise will pick up again in the next days/weeks.

We are mugs if we sell Diaz or Konate, we've fucked with the squad too much already, any more and we lose effectiveness next season, it becomes a transition season. I'd rather lose Konate for free next season than get even £40million now, yeh a year left, but practically it's a pretty poultry sum for the quality of defender he is.

We should only really be entertaining a new striker, and a replacement for Quansah at this point. Nunez can go, and Harvey if we absolutely must, but you don't completely gut a side that was arguably second to only PSG in the world last season and expect progress, instead you build on it.

So far I'd argued we've done that nicely, but we're one stroke of the scalpel away from going too far, I hope management can see that as well.

this is how you end up in sticky situations with the squad.

we’ve lost our 3rd choice cb and it looks like we’re waiting on palace to blink which might not work out as we hope.

the #9 position is even worse, it looks like we might be letting the club who owns our first choice sign our second choice as his replacement. never mind the fact we actually might need two players and we’re struggling to offload darwin at an acceptable price.

hopefully this is just doom and gloom and we’ve actually agreed or have good alternatives to isak and guehi ready to go

Are Kerkez & Frimpong backup, or are Robbo and Bradley the backup?

It’s the “fit Isak” thing that I’d also pause on.

As injury prone as Isak is, I'm not staking my development on his fitness.

As for our fullback situation, it's a poor comparison.

You're describing a backup role though?

Why wouldn’t he, if he’s guaranteed game time, paid a lot more than he currently is and a strong possibility that he’ll replace Isak down the track.

It’s not as if he’d be starting every game if we signed him, so by that logic, why would he sign for us?

But he would start every game if we signed him. We don't have any strikers.
