Liverpool related transfer speculation

I was thinking about this earlier - I reckon we’ve decided that Konate is staying even if it means losing him on a free and we’ll sit tight waiting on Guehi either as a free next summer or towards the end of the transfer window if the price either comes down a bit more or someone else makes a serious move.

If we were even thinking of letting Konate go, then a CB in now for as much pre-season would be absolutely critical.

As it is, what we’re looking for is a Quansah replacement, and we can take our time signing with Guehi now or bringing in a quality youngster that could fill in if need be, but we can spend some time developing and take a little bit of a gamble on Gomez being able to back up Virgil & Konate.

The only be that spring to mind that we’ve sort of been linked to are that young Italian Cb (I know, I know) or Hato.
Chelsea now inevitably linked with Hato.

Recent thinking has shifted to:

Jota (RIP)--> Heti
Chiesa --> Fofana
Diaz --> Rodrygo
Nunez --> Isak

+ Guehi regardless of what happens to Konate

Generational summer if that all lands.

Yeah probably but it's still too much. They're in no position to ask for that much.
Unless Guehi is in a hurry to move. I'd get him in January.

No way I'm happy with Konate, Virgil, Gomez and possibly Robbo/Endo/Nallo/Stephenson as our CBs until Jan. If nothing else, the starters will get complacent. Think its worth the extra few £m's to keep the squad really competitive.

It feels like Guehi has already greenlighted this.

I'd definitely be fine with Guehi at 40M and wouldn't be outraged at 50M. Gives us leverage on and a succession plan to Konate, if needed, while strengthening for another title and a deep run in Europe.

Get it done.

depends on whether konate signs a contract. if we just stopped now and signed guehi id be happy enough
I don’t see us selling Konate this Summer, unless he is used as leverage for Rodrygo.
I also, still expect to sign Guehi, unless the playing time is an issue - Which I can’t see given the amount of games we should play and also because I think we will revert to a back 3 at times.
But I agree, unless we sell a 1st teamer, if Guehi was our only other major signing I would be happy….well content 😂

Was reported today that Palace have lowered the asking price to around 50 mill. Guessing we're waiting a bit before putting in a bid.

If this is the case… there’s your Quansah replacement and looks like someone not getting subbed at 1/2 time for losing too many duels.

The best case scenario is obviously that we go into the season with Van Dijk, Konate, Guehi and Gomez as our centre backs.

However, I suspect this is only happening if someone else comes in with a serious interest in Guehi and we move to stop it happening.

Otherwise we'll probably try to cope until at least January and either try to get him cheaper then or for free at the end of the season.

I think we move for Guehi when Palace flinch and lower their asking price. At some point they will do that is my guess.

Word around that we're interested in Charlie Cresswell.

Toulouse signed him from Leeds last July, after a loan at Milwall.

Homegrown, 22 years old, massively built, old-school defender great in the air. Did very well in the U21 Euros apparently.

Has anyone ever seen this guy and Frankenstein's Monster in the same room together?
