Maxi Rodriguez will ask Liverpool for a return to his native Argentina this summer.

In spite of a rich goalscoring record toward the end of last season, the Liverpool winger has struggled to meet expectations following his move from Atletico Madrid last January.

Maxi began his career with Newell's Old Boys and the 30-year-old, currently back in his homeland, has revealed that he has held discussions with their president Guillermo Lorente in the hope of rejoining them should Liverpool allow him to leave.

“When I left here, I knew I was coming back.” he told La Capital.

“The president [Lorente] called me [about rejoining] and I told him 'yes'.

“Now it all depends on the contract I have with Liverpool, that maybe can be loosened a little.”

Argentinians love trying to weasel out of contracts! Not too bothered about Maxi going. He's got a bit of a cult following but cant see him playing that much next season if we make the right signings. Best of luck to him if he's allowed leave.

I dont WANT Maxi to go, but i dont mind if he goes. IF we get better than Downing instead.

Quite right, I don't think long term he's right for the team. I've enjoyed him being here though and wish him all the best. Hopefully we can get a few million for him!

According to the Mirror this morning he's on £100k a week I would say the club would be glad to get him of the wage along with Cole and Jova who allegedly between them are costing us £1.2 million a month in wages.

sad to see him go cause he seems like a top fella, but its best for everyone. he had the unholy combination of great movement and shite finishing (untill recently) wonder if we'll get much cashish? 6 mill?

Would be good to give him to them and get first option on some of their young up and coming players as part of the deal.. also getting him off the wage bill would be a plus

Doubt he'll fetch a fee. He's a bit old now, besides which Newell will know we want to lower the wage bill.

He won't get much game time ahead of Mata so I guess it is sensible for him to move on.

He's 30, Jules Wenger.

Hardly glue factory time.
Thats not a bad shout. Let him go on a free and get a 5 year first refusal deal......

That said i dont want any more Argentinians. Messi, Tevez, Mascherano....theyre all fucking cunts.

I like Maxi and will be sad to see him go. He relishes a pass and move environment but with Henderson, Downing and potentially Mata will have players with improved attributes.

Did he sign a new contract, will we fetch anything for him?

Watch yer mouth, Oncy!

I got roasted for a similar joke about Spaniards the other day.

Oooh, how can you dismiss a player because of his nationality, blah blah blah...
Fuck em. I dont care. They are, fray bentos pie eatin, sheep fuckin, corned beef makin, drug snortin, bike ridin cunt'es.

Maxi Rodriguez, better song than a liverpool player. Wouldn't want to push him out given our options out wide, but if he wants to fuck off I don't care. He's an average player, and showed a total lack of fight earlier in the season where he was totally anonymous when the going got tough.

We need better than the gang of full backs, injury crocks, converted strikers, and general mediocrity we've had in that position for about a decade now. If Maxi is essential to our team next year we are fucked anyway.

Hasnt he got one year left on his deal?

He can go next year for free if thats the case, theres not much point in selling him now.

Damn right there is. 520000 reasons why we should sell him this year. 100k a week for maxi is ludicrous.

If he wants to go then let him. Sounds like we are paying a fortune to keep someone who will probably just be back up anyway.

If reports of his wages are exaggerated though we should consider hanging onto him for now, especially if we are mostly going to be signing young players. Would be good to have someone experienced around, and if it looks like he is surplus to requirements in the first half of the season then we can always get rid of him in January

The Pres should have foned Kenny and asked for permission to talk to Maxi.

I've got no problem with it for a year, we'd only have to spend more to replace his likely contributions. Unless theres a youth ready to step in.

And if Maxi does stay Suarez will have someone to have dinner with.

Sure that's why we didn't get Kun, he knew his bestie (maxi) was off back to Argentina.

*Shakes fist at Maxi*
