Maxi Rodriguez will ask Liverpool for a return to his native Argentina this summer.
In spite of a rich goalscoring record toward the end of last season, the Liverpool winger has struggled to meet expectations following his move from Atletico Madrid last January.
Maxi began his career with Newell's Old Boys and the 30-year-old, currently back in his homeland, has revealed that he has held discussions with their president Guillermo Lorente in the hope of rejoining them should Liverpool allow him to leave.
“When I left here, I knew I was coming back.” he told La Capital.
“The president [Lorente] called me [about rejoining] and I told him 'yes'.
“Now it all depends on the contract I have with Liverpool, that maybe can be loosened a little.”
