Miscellaneous - liverpool thread

He’s the manager, not some bit part 20 something player…
I'm aware, but people can do what they like in their free time. As I say, it's not like he's still competing for anything, and it's not like he's left heitinga at home making the first team go through their paces. Everyone's in Dubai having a lovely time.

If this was in the middle of a league race still then I'd be fucked off. It's not, and we've won the league, so not arsed.

If the argument is "why isn't he with the team", I'm pretty sure early doors he said he doesn't want a pally relationship with the team, he wants his captain's to lead on that front.

Maybe I'm still too attached to Klopp and maybe I'm alone in thinking this but Slot hasn't won me over yet and this shit isn't helping.

"We want to win two more games and after the final whistle, including him [Alexander-Arnold], lift the trophy up and celebrate like we have never done before," said the 33-year-old Netherlands international.

When asked whether Alexander-Arnold's approaching exit could overshadow the celebrations, Van Dijk said: "I don't think so. It shouldn't. There's a lot more players that also deserve an amazing day."

Van Dijk, who signed a two-year contract last month, said all of the Liverpool players need to move on and focus on the final two games of the season.

"The [crowd] reaction happened," Van Dijk said. "He has to deal with it. We as a team have to deal with that as well.

"I wasn't really expecting something, to be honest, but I think maybe he expected this. It's not easy, not at all. We're here for him anyway.

"We are gutted that he's not here with us next year because he's a fantastic player with outstanding, exceptional qualities that we have seen over the last seven years."

The Dutchman also insisted that his situation and that of top scorer Mohamed Salah, 32, who also recently signed a new two-year deal, could not be compared to Alexander-Arnold's position.

"Everyone shares different opinions and he feels like he has done it all, and he did it, and he wants to try something different," Van Dijk said.

"You are speaking about one of the biggest clubs of all in Real Madrid, who he might go to as I read in the media.

"I was sorting my own stuff out. I had to secure my future as well and I was quite busy doing that.

"There were loads of other options, but Liverpool is the place for me."

Klopp was charisma personified. Slot is Dutch. It'll take time

It'll take time to be won over because he's only been here a year, regardless of the league win. He could win more trophies and still might not connect with the fans as well as Klopp did. Jurgen was a one off in terms of personality, he got things wrong too though, but he should not be used as a barometer to measure Slot with, Slot's done a lot of things Klopp fell short of too, but that doesn't taint my view of Klopp.

This is the thing that really confuses me. Klopp came in, changed the culture of the club and got the fans believing again and we fucking adore him.

Arsenal fans say arteta has done the same thing....but artetas a fucking Lego headed, on the spectrum narcissist.

Its a mad one how 2 clubs can be so vastly different

Did winning the league not help?
I just don't find him that likeable really. Started off well, but it's just been getting worse.
The treatment of Chiesa, Elliott, Endo, Quansah etc. Subbing Trent on this weekend. His latest press conference.
I can't put my finger on it but something bothers me about him.

Or maybe I'm just a miserable cunt.

It's even more bizarre when you consider that Wenger changed the culture of English Football, he brought in healthy eating, got rid of the booze culture and helped influence the elevation of English Football again on the European stage. Arsenal fans should be all too aware of that level of impact. All Arteta has given them is some level of stability after years of mediocrity. They are challenging, but only just. When you consider the money spent and general quality of players bought, they should have won a few trophies.

Tbh klopp froze players out when he came as well. Difference is this time they're probably good enough to start on rare occasions

A whiff of Eurotrash?

I don't give a fuck about the treatment of Quansah et al and I don't watch / listen to press conferences... but.. those Ibiza pictures are odd to say the least.

You know what...yeah, that might be it.

I remember Sakho getting the cold shoulder, but that was on him.
Anyway, Slot will get his players this summer. Let's see if it changes.

All managers do it, but it's the manner in which they do it, which I agree with Modo on. You never got the sense that Klopp pissed off anyone he wasn't keen on. No one left and slagged him off. Slot's treatment of fringe players has been a bit less subtle and more obvious. Neither are particularly great at giving fringe players minutes. Klopp would frustrate the fuck out of me with his reluctance to bring players on before the 60th-70th minute. Slot has been a bit more flexible, but again has refused to bring players on when he could have. I think Slot is more ruthless, the question is in the longterm whether that will start to grate with some players and it leaves him more open to criticism when players leave and the potential for public spats with players, you can kind of sense it with him.

I do like Slot, but next season I think will be the season where we will learn much more about him and whether he's just ridden on the crest of a wave, or if he's the real deal. If he's the real deal, ultimately I don't think it will matter about him being ruthless, if he delivers.

I honestly couldn't care less how much I personally like a manager if they win the league. He could have all the personal charm and warmth of Malcolm Glazer for all I care. It's not like Klopp was perfect anyway - I could well do without seeing him grinning for money in every other advert I watch.

Not a big Erdinger fan then!

Tbf he's given everyone time off. He can have a nice time if he wants. He's won the league with games to spare
Yep and nowadays players barely get an off season. I think it’s well deserved and hopefully lets them recharge fully for next season.

Fair enough…I think about 99% of my reaction is seeing him with his arm around that absolute thundercunt Wayne Lineker…

This is all very positive. They've all been playing under huge pressure non stop for years. Now they've won the league with ages to spare, don't have the euros or world cup or that shit club cup to worry about and can get some stress free R&R for a few months for the first time in years... as champions. It's fucking great.
