Mo Salah 2025/26 Season

Quite simply the current form of Mo isn't worth 400k per week. What was worth 400k per week? His prior performances. There is no world where his current performance levels are justify the cost.

Because of his wage, and his aura, we won't rotate him and Beamy has hit the nail on the head around fatigue. Just look at his stats in finals - they are toilet. We also need to have flexibility to address areas that are not performing. We could even try him on the left for a bit - why not mix things up if we must play him every game.

The problems with playing him on the left are;
Who do you drop? I can think of five players who either start or drift out to the left from their proper positions.
Who plays on the right?

Let's say things aren't working, mostly because Mo is 'cut inside' and Gakpo is 'cut inside' - why not switch them for half a game to mix it up. The opposition won't have prepared for it. Being unpredictable is an asset, we don't possess this trait.

I think we're getting into a similar position with Mo that Barca found themselves in with Messi towards the end of his time there. Messi the legend, the prolific goal scorer and creator, played 90 minutes every week, no matter how well or badly he played, no matter that the game was done and dusted at half time, the manager, whoever it was, couldn't contemplate taking him off because he was Messi, the guy who could turn a game on a six-pence, and who would have a proper monk on if he felt his minutes were being managed.
Then they'd get to the latter stages of the Champions League and his performances would tail off because he was knackered, because he'd played 90 minutes every game and never had a rest. But because he was Messi, the manager wasn't allowed to say that he told everybody so (not least because he hadn't because he was too scared to do so). Then Barca would end up not winning trophies that they could have won if he'd had a bit more in the tank when it really mattered.
Same here with Mo. On all counts. Plus AFCON.

I get where you're coming from but I don't think the comparison really holds up. Barca failed due to horrendous mismanagement and shit transfers. Did Messi's lack of defensive contribution hurt them at times? Sure, but wouldn't hold Messi up as the reason they struggled in those latter years at all.

Anyways, we spent all our money on two #9s and a #10 so even if we wanted to manage Salah's minutes, who are we rotating him with? Frimpong? Chiesa? The options are very thin the ground.

Salah plays because Salah delivers. Every time he's been doubted he's come back stronger. You can all do your little formations in your head where he doesn't play, but it's pointless, because he plays. If you want to know why he plays, start reading this post again.

He was exceptional against AM. I wonder if he's on a mission in the Champions league to earn that Balon d'Or he deserves. We will see tonight maybe

How on earth is it a ‘crazy theory’ that someone can contribute in both an attacking sense and a defensive sense on the right?

If Szobo started on the right instead of Mo the other night for instance, we’d have been infinitely more defensively solid and he’d still have been able to potentially contribute in the attacking third…when moved into midfield for instance he was integral to our winning goal…

Our team is unbalanced right now and unless Salah makes use of the considerable efforts of others to make up for his lack of defensive duty by being a unicorn attacker, we’re skewing the whole system without reward.
Bump fucking bump

All very well on here keen to be prooven right but... We were brilliant against Gala first half weren't we without him??, I would imagine if he carries on like this then would get a look at options again after Internationals but not convinced we will be any better overall. There is a lot to fix and it's not just singular thing, it's an issue collectively at the moment. If it was one, it would be easy to fix.

He's predictably awful. The deal has been we carry him off the ball, he carries us on the ball.

We can't carry him off the ball, and he is deleterious on the ball. Since we have entirely overhauled the squad anyway, we should have just sold him, but here we are, with a dead weight that is a dead end.

He has many better levels he can reach, but he should be finding it on the bench.

I think he’s creating a situation where not only is he not getting any sort of extension above the one he has - but also, no other forward over the age of 32 is getting anything like the sort of package or extension he got.

He’s been really bad.

To @Woland’s point - yes, we keep him because he always delivers… but right now… he’s not delivering at all - it’s not long before he fucks off to AFCON - and if we play well and he hasn’t been firing before he goes, then he absolutely should get back into the team automatically.

Shame really - but as they say, all things end badly otherwise they wouldn’t end.

Yeah, no fucking shit.

Everyone thought it was Trent only, but you can track how exposed he was, over the years, with Salahs inability to do anything.

The deal should be off for Salah.

We need Salah at 100 percent effort in terms of running, tracking etc, for 60 minutes. 60 percent effort for 90 minutes is nothing.

You can't carry so much luxury in a side.

Salah used to offer threat simply by existing. No amount of evolution in will make up for losing killer pace.
