I'm not worried about Salah's wages. If we want to sell him, it's an easy sale to Saudi. They'd pay up the remainder of his contract and some.
The reason why people are getting on Salah is because we're making all these sacrifices in the system to cover for his defensive cheating. We all acknowledged it last season; Salah himself said it and that he spoke to Slot about conserving energy. Cucurella acknowledged it yesterday. Everyone knows how we play and our weakness to be overloaoded down the right flank. That's fine, but then when he gets the ball, he simply has to punish Chelsea to make all that sacrifice worth it.
Yesterday we made ALL that sacrifice for HIM to be in front of goal. And he failed us when it mattered.
1) Wirtz gave him a good chance at the start of the 2nd half. We take all that risk for him to score.
2) Wirtz put him through on goal, probably hint of offside, but still, he was through and he blazed over.
Last season one of these, if not, both of these moments he scores or assists and the rest of his performance is glossed over because we win.
Our system cannot work if Salah isn't doing what he did last year.
His pace? still good but he's lost yet another step.
Cannot beat players easily - which means the defense never has to cheat to his side.
Very wasteful passer when it comes to easy passes ... but my oh my does he have some outrageously beautiful passes which I don't think many make in our team.
Is this a blip? Is father time catching up to him?
I don't know what the answer is, but unless it changes fast, the system *has* to adjust to the reality and I'm not sure if Mo works as well in that as an automatic starter/90 minute player.
