Most underrated player in the squad

Does anyone recall watching any CB in any era who seems to just totally mindfuck players in 1-v-1 or even 2-v-1 situations like those in the clip? It's like guys look up, see that they're coming up against him, and then they start going all jelly-legged or fog-brained. It's ridiculous how many times Van Dijk just needs to stalk them, breathe or whisper "Fuck off with that", and then the play is broken.

Troy Deeney, who's a big Virgil fan, has said similar things about him more than once. Last time I heard him do so was on TalkSport when he described how opposition attackers get the ball, see Virgil standing in their way, think "Nah, not bothering" and lay the ball off.

I think this view of Diaz not delivering changed last year. He came up big at times. But not really a week to week matchwinner. But a more often producer of moments that won us games

But moments like that 1-on-1 v Citeh in 2024 still come to mind.

Yep, they're not necessarily underappreciated, but there should be regular recognition that VVD, Ali and Salah all have legit grounds to be in an all-time Liverpool eleven, and Robbo would probably make a squad, too. I'm hoping the next few seasons allows all of them to rack up the honours.

MacAllister - I don't think we realize what a gem of a midfielder we have in our engine room ... he'd walk into any team's midfield - be it club or international level.
Came here to say exactly this, he's got so much Modric about him, one of the best in the world, but just quietly goes about his business of running games.
