Wenker is probs sat on his couch injecting methadone thinking that 15 years ago this kid would have been sucking him off with his finger up his bum after scoring 25 goals a season, whereas now he's had to set him free so that the entire world could see him score one of the best wallops at the highest level, as if it was just a normal kind of thing to do.

I know opinion was divided on the transfer, but opinion can't be divided on this.

I said the same thing on the way home from the match. What was Arsene thinking when he watched his eternal fringe player whacking in a rasper against City at Anfield? I think the Ox adds much-needed zip to our midfield and would always like to see him in the team as long as his current form keeps up.

We don't have many alternatives, more's the pity... but how people consider Gini a better player than him is beyond me.

Such people take the line that Gini is doing all kinds of good work that you don't notice. I have to admit that I haven't noticed much of it lately, but maybe my understanding of the subtleties is lacking.

Ive not been a fan but props to him, hes turning into quite a player

It's because we, as mere season ticket holders for decades, don't seem to get what these ultra intelligent players bring to the game. We just have to trust our superiors and doff our caps in appreciation.

I think Wenger would be thinking Ox should have passed it.

He scores twice now against City. Against tighter defense he is unable to do so?

He's an incredible athlete and he is fitting in to the system well. I think as his confidence grows he'll take more shots on, take on more players. So happy for the lad. It can't be hard leaving with such wide commentary that he will just be another bench warmer, but getting a chance to prove yourself when Coutinho is sold for £140m and smashing it home from 35 yards in the Champion's League Quarter Finals in front of the Kop is the stuff dreams are made of.

Wenger was/is no bigger a fool than the 99% of this forum who laughed their fucking head off when we signed him for 38-odd million a few months back to be honest. People in glass houses and all that.

True, but we didn't manage him for 7 years and try and coach his natural game out of him

We wouldn't try and avoid playing him for longer than 20 minutes to avoid giving money to Southampton

Considering their struggles, considering how they've been crying for a driving force from midfield since carzola got crocked, he's gonna feel a proper cunt; whereas we just feel a bit daft for doubting him

The lad scored a screamer in the quarter final of the champions league against the league's best team, and put in a hell of a performance to boot

Wenger would be weeping over that

Perfect retort.

That drive from midfield is the most important bit. Keita by all accounts has that in his locker too... Especially in these kinds of games where we can be on the back foot, bombing up 20 yards past 4 players to the edge of their box is something we've missed since Suarez/Sturridge days

The foreign co commentator simple saying just "Oomfph" tells you all you need to know about the quality of that strike.

He's got a long way to go - next season will be really interesting - and he needs to acquire consistency and a greater confidence in his positional play, but he's dong well. It was fine that fans doubted him when he came, but it was ridiculous the number who absolutely wrote him off after just days of arriving. He's still quite young, he's got about six to eight years in which to keep progressing, and he's clearly relishing the chance to learn and improve. It's great to see. That's two signings this season - him and Robertson - who've developed impressively. It's been ages since we've witnessed that.

Agree re: development. I'm excited to see whether the same will happen with Solanke & Ings - both are getting a lot of time to train and grow under Klopp at Melwood, i'm looking forward to seeing these two playing some of our final league games of the season.

If he had consistency (and that's a big if, because that's a hard thing to develop), he could be an absolute bargain. He seems to have the lot in his locker

Yes. I'd definitely start with Ings against Everton. If he's going to prove himself, again, that match seems made for him, and it also makes sense in terms of resting other attacking players.

I'm quite happy I was in the "it's a bit much but he's a decent option" camp
Well I had to check and I didn't find the relevant thread but I did find a post from a few years ago when I said that Sterling and Oxlade were the most talented wingers in England.

35M. Which sounds a lot better than 38M for some reason.

Wenger is manager of Arsenal though, that does raise the stakes somewhat.
Ox already looks miles better here than he ever would have at the Arse, pity we didn't get Walcott too before they ruined him.
Let's hope the senile cunt gets another new contract this summer.

That's not how I recall it. Someone will doubtless make a cunt of me but I think the majority thought it was an overpayment but we were glad to have him. I think my point was that I was glad to buy him, but not at the expense of not getting VVD or whoever else. It wasn't 99% or anything close.

But I'm not going to make this into a Rolls Royce thread. I'm just glad he's playing so well, and that goal was fucking brilliant.

I didn't want him, really. And he's also had some fucking dreadful games. But he was great last night, and was also very good when we beat them in the league.

If he can deliver the sort of performance level he gave last night on a consistent basis, over a long period of time, he will prove a bargain. But let's not start sucking eachother off just yet, we don't want another "Why Aren't We More Excited By Origi" thread.
