Or some sort of test to see if he's a cunt and he failed.

It's probably like Blade Runner, he showed concern for that poor flipped-over turtle and that was that, not wanted.

For those asking re Phil Jones #MUFC deal, he's just arrived at England U21 camp and he's in high spirits. "Rumour" appears to be rubbish

Genuine question, do some of us just want Phil Jones because united now want him? Fair enough Gary25 has been banging on about him since the day he joined the forum but not many others we're that pushed until very recently.

I was sold after seeing the youtube vid (against United) that was posted about a million pages back. No wonder Ferguson is interested. He would have been intrigued with Jones's performance that day. I'm shocked Arsenal aren't involved. I suppose Wenger would rather pick up an unknown for 500k and try mould him into a world beater. Jones would be perfect for them beside the classy Vermaelen.

Nothing to do with Man U wanting him mate, we had him all but signed before they even came on the scene. They weren't even in the equation up until last night/today...it was us and Arsenal and it looked like we were in pole position.

I'm gutted about it because Jones in my view is a class act and someone who could slot in straight away in a problem position for us.
You've exaggerated this on and on over the last few pages. First he was at Anfield yesterday, then he'd had a medical, now he was 'all but signed'.

It's not uncommon for players to talk to various clubs when such clubs are interested. Maybe we didn't speak to him at all, maybe he just fancies United more because they're Champions and they're also in the CL. No one knows but stop making out like we've fucked up, it's not that black and white, you don't know for sure that we've even spoken to him and even if we have, there's enough reasons why he'd choose United over us.
Chill out mate. Did i say we have fucked up? I just said i wonder if we could have done more to make sure Jones signed for us. Wasn't slating anyone at LFC.

I was only making the point that it looked like we in pole position for signing Jones, hence Man U of all Clubs coming in and snatching him away at the last minute is a blow.

funny, a lot of the media are maing it seem jones was taken fro under arsenals nose, guess we wont really know

Wenger, who was aware of the £16m escape clause in the five-year deal Jones signed 13 months ago, had made an 11th-hour attempt to sign the player, who told manager Steve Kean on Monday that he wanted Champions League football. Wenger made contact on Monday evening, in a repeat of the overtures he made to secure the services of Chris Smalling last January. It was to no avail.

Jones was overwhelmed by Ferguson's assurance that he can be the next Rio Ferdinand at Old Trafford. Money did not come into the equation – the defender is likely to earn about £50,000 a week on a five-year deal – only a sense that his ambition can be far better fulfilled at United than either Liverpool, Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur, who were also interested. Manchester City also looked seriously at Jones but decided £16m was not good value for a player they felt made too many defensive mistakes.

Wenger is left hoping instead that he can add Blackburn's Chris Samba or Bolton Wanderers' Gary Cahill to his ranks. But neither has been as consistent as Jones, whom Ferguson first became aware of during his fine performance for Rovers in the 0-0 draw against United at Ewood Park in April 2010. Ferguson immediately told the then Blackburn manager Sam Allardyce that he thought Jones was the full article and Allardyce's chairman, John Williams, privately predicted at the time that the Chorley-born defender would soon become a United player.

Jones's move to Old Trafford leaves Liverpool still seeking a central defender. One possible target is Birmingham City's Scott Dann. Paris Saint-Germain's Mamadou Sakho is understood to want to stay in Paris for another year, with Arsenal his preference after that. Lyons' Dejan Lovren is another possibility – he is not as effective as Sakho but is only 21. Liverpool are also understood to have an interest in Lyons' 23-year-old left back Aly Cissokho, though Newcastle United's Jose Enrique is a far more likely recruit for that position.

I love the fact that the media are saying we've been taken to the cleaners by Sunderland regarding the fee, but the Mancs have gotten a great deal.

Bizzare.

Isn't the media also headlining Fergie 2 - 0 Liverpool regarding Jones and Young?

Ha

So much for them being skint. De Gea, Jones, Young and possibly Sneijder.

If you were to believe the media Man U have snatched Jones from our grasp while they lost interest in signing Henderson allowing us to do so
