PL Opposition Tidbits

I think both Leeds and Sunderland might have a chance this season given the uncertainty with Brentford and potentially West Ham.
I think west ham will be fine. Brentford are a concern, I agree.

Sunderland won't have a team for a month as half of their squad (roughly 90% of their signings) Will be off to AFCON

West Ham were terrible last season and have just sold Kudus. Soucek is rumored off to Everton. A few others out of contract.
Poor manager and will need to get their signings right.
They’re in serious danger of being in a relegation fight.

I don’t think that month matters to much for Sunderland. Leeds have the best chance though, by far.

Depends whether Potter manages to get a system working.

I think the 3 promoted teams will struggle, don’t really have the firepower to hurt Premier league teams.

Wolves could be an issue - decent manager, but they’ve lost couple of important players and as mentioned, Brentford look like they’re getting gutted - let’s see if their stats approach saves them.

I wouldn’t be sur0rised to see Forest, Fulham & Palace not perform to last seasons standards

I reckon Everton might even push for top half with Gollum back.

Yeah if everton continue next season the way they ended the last one they might even be quite good. 31 points from 19 games under Moyes, which you don't have to be a maths genius to work out would put them in the running for a European place over a season.

Just seen that Spurs are looking to get Joao Paihinha for £26m from Bayern. Didn’t they pay about £60m last summer?

Something like that, yeah. Always seemed like an overpay to me and from what I understand he didn't exactly disprove that last season.

Not surprised, Soucek feels like the most Everton player that doesn't play for Everton out there

Ederson isn't the player he was but it'd still be a big loss if he left City. Trafford looks decent but it's a hufe step up.

I'm very surprised nobody big - including ourselves - haven't had a good sniff around West Ham for Jarrod Bowen... He'd be a far more dependable version of the power cube for us.

Anyone else wonder the same?

Sorry but I'm going to go against the trend a little bit here. IMO Amorim's grasping the nettle which a number of his predecessors have failed to grasp and taking a combine harvester to that squad of wasters in a way which has been needed - badly needed - for years. It'll be far from an overnight job and things may well get worse before getting better, but it's exactly what they need.

He's been extremely undiplomatic about it though. Publicly treating multiple players like lepers has almost certainly cost Utd tens of millions in transfer fees. And he needs all the cash he can get.

Wouldn't disagree, but I suspect he reckons things have gone beyond the point where diplomacy can realistically be expected to work any longer and for me he has plenty of reason to think so. The history of the players concerned most likely means their value has sunk like a stone anyway and my bet is he sees priority 1 as getting them the heck out of that club.

Getting them out is way harder if you smash their reputations to pieces though. It's completely counterproductive imo.

Garnacho isn't even allowed to be at Carrington when Amorim is there. It's just stupid.

Gyokeres sounds like a bit of a c... Maybe thats why teams have stayed away as well.

"Vik would want to do training sessions to be the way Vik wanted to work," remembers Viveash.

"He wanted to do finishing at a certain time, he wanted to do this, he wanted to do that. He had a strong character, strong personality and when you get two of you like that, then you have to find a way of communicating.

"And you'd butt heads at times, for the good of each other really, but he certainly understood his worth as time went on." The manner of his Sporting departure - a refusal to turn up for pre-season to force through a move - has similar tones.

Hadn't heard that before. I think it's mainly his limitations as a striker, along with his age and price tag, that are discouraging interest from other top clubs.

Agreed. I still think Arteta looked at his build and stature and thought he’d be perfect in my 6’0 + starting 11. The man has thing for height and set pieces.
