PL Opposition Tidbits

This is usually when I defend the team we're mocking, but in this instance I honestly can't say anything.
I'm watching the game and Arsenal look shit.
They even had their best players on the pitch.

Obviously. Preseason Yadda Yadda Yadda. But.... They're bereft of any and all creativity. Odegaard isn't a 10 no matter how hard they push it. If they get Eze then that's something, but you'd think they need more

Suggestions on TalkSh!te this morning that none other than Tottenham could rival them for Eze now that Son's going.

Their new DoF Berta came with a big reputation, but he and Arteta between them don't inspire much confidence based on the close season so far.

I'm half expecting Eze and guehi to stay for another year for a European adventure at palace. The place must be absolutely buzzing at the minute.

I haven't seen any highlights but they started without Zubimendi and Rice, so hard to say they had their best players on the pitch?

Hard to say whether zubimendi is even their best 6 tbh. Rice I'd agree with but he's hardly a creative powerhouse.

It’s Arstokenal - the plan is not to be creative, it’s to be inspired so much by Arteta’s motivational speeches that they’ll keep it tight, concede fuck all and hope to score from a set piece or their tactic of lumping to the big man up front.

Spanish Motivational George Graham will have them purring like a fruit bat.

True, but they conceded another goal after they were brought on. The team that started wasn't that bad.

Saka, Martinelli, Raya, Saliba, Nwanieri, White, Merino, Skelly etc started

saka is everything to arsenal any time i watch them, rice has been doing occasional bits, but it’s nearly always give it to saka and hope he does something

True - but their CM trio will be Zubimendi, Rice and Odegaard. However, good to see that their next set of depth are struggling.

What I also noticed is that Arsenal are going to look weak in defence with that midfield. Zubimendi is more of a playmaker than a DM.
Rice is going to have to a lot of defending, despite the fact that he's more valuable to them in attack.

The idea is likely for Rice at DM (very very good) and Zubi + Odegaard as the creative CMs. I wouldn't be writing that team off yet. Arsenal will be strong regardless of their poor pre-season.

Agree. IMO they'll be our closest challengers again, and may get closer to us than before if it takes a while for our newbies to settle in.

I think City will be very strong. Rodri back will transform their team, along with a decent full back in Ait Nouri. They need a bit of stability at the back, and to actually play defenders in the right position. But let's hope they are not

I've been saying for years that their recruitment has been weak. I noticed a commentator saying the same thing the other day. They are strong but just nowhere near their 'heyday' so they'll beat most but slip up enough times that'll they'll be 3rd this season.

We can't know for sure until it all kicks off, but I don't see them as our most dangerous challengers. Rodri's a top, top player of course but it remains to be seen how close next season's version will be to his best, I'm not a big Ait Nouri fan TBH (he gets forward really well but even Trent is a better defender) and Dias too has some way to go to get back (if he can) to his best. They'll be dangerous, of course, but for my money the Arse look a better all-round outfit.

Is Rodri fit?

I haven’t heard anything since he got injured at the club World Cup.

Posted by the BBC on Tuesday.

But the 29-year-old took full part in Tuesday's open training session at Joie Stadium and appears to be fit for the Premier League season-opener at Wolves on 16 August
