Last game between the teams: 17.08.2019 Premier League: Southampton – Liverpool 1:2; Danny Ings 83’; Sadio Mane 45’, Roberto Firmino 71’

Last game at this venue: 22.09.2018 Premier League: Liverpool – Southampton 3:0; Wesley Hoedt 10’(own goal), Joel Matip 21’, Mohamed Salah 45’

Worth mentioning: Liverpool won all of the last five meetings with Southampton and are undefeated in six. Southampton were unable to score more than a goal in any of the last nine matches, totaling just four, while the Reds hit two or more in each of the last five encounters. All but one of those featured over 2,5 goals, while two witnessed goals at both ends. The last two games at Anfield finished with the same score of 3:0.

Missing players Liverpool: Sadio Mane, James Milner and Nathaniel Clyne are injured. Xherdan Shaqiri and Adam Lallana are doubtful. Klopp hopes Origi will be OK for this fixture. Was subbed due to cramp.

Missing players Southampton: Cedric Soares and Yan Valery are injured.

Line up:

Same team that played against West Ham.

Cedric - loaned to Arsenal no? Or is that a different Cedric?

The first game against them should have been a draw - Ings missed a sitter late in the game.

I'm torn between Fabs, Ox and Keita here but although I'm a huge fan of Fabs he does look like another 20-30 mins here would benefit him more than starting. He seemed to get into the groove much more after he settled down yesterday.

Ox looked rubbish up until he scored, a virtual bystander, and then he took off ! Keita looked right up to speed from the moment he came on and we immediately looked more threatening with him and Ox pushing forward and Fabs in behind.

Honestly there's a case for any of those three to start and I'd still be happy. I'll go for Keita because for sure Southampton will play a similar tactical game to West Ham and have Danny playing up front hoping to pick us off. I think however that Klopp will stick with Ox.

Ox just looked brainless up until the goal, didn't he? In fairness to him he made lots of thankless runs off the ball to make space for the forwards, but Keita instantly made his presence felt in a manner that Ox struggled to do all game. Klopp needs to play Keita, because Ox has been mostly gash despite getting a run of games in the team.

What's the fucking point -? we are going to win it anyway, we got nothing to look forward to now, the whole thing is a fix.

It's cause Keita knows how to play in midfield while Ox still hasn't figured it out.

Ox was pretty ordinary, but he scored, so there's that. And anyone thinking Keita deserves a start based on 13 minutes of football need to give their heads a wobble. Fabinho was shite when he came on (again) so it's not exactly a rich and varied set of options.

I agree, but it wouldn't take much for the likes of Keita or Fabs to take that spot away from Ox, despite the goal.

Keita does not "deserve" to start, but it would be helpful to get him back up to speed before we restart Champions League and I think Southampton will be more of test than Norwich, when we return from break.

When Keith is on form, which he was before his injury and looked briefly last night, he is one of our 4 best rotatable midfielders with Fabs, Hendo, and Gini.

It isn't based on 13 minutes of football played by Keita, it's more based on the last couple of hundred minutes played by Ox, in 4 consecutive starts. He scored, and as I say, he made dozens of similar runs during the game. However, the ball bounced off him constantly and his touch and control looks desperate– if anything he seems to be getting more frustrated with each consecutive performance. I wonder if he's better being used as an impact player for a few games, where there is less pressure on him to impose himself on the game. In terms of Keita's fitness to play, Klopp would not even have given him 13 minutes if he didn't think he was ready. As for Fabs, he is clearly not acclimatised yet, but Hendo is doing such a magnificent job that just isn't a massive concern. I do wish Klopp would let the likes of Fabs get another game against Shrewsbury. He needs to play himself out of this fug.

Yeah, Fabinho needs minutes, and ideally when they don't natter too much. He's had some horrible cameos since he came back from injury.

As for Chamberlain, he simply looks (at times) to not quite have the tactical awareness or brains to know how to play in our midfield; everything seems a bit rushed, and he's almost panicking in possession. When you have the solidity of Wijnaldum and Henderson (and hopefully Fabinho) in the team, it allows the third CM more freedom, but he struggles to play the game at anything other than breakneck pace; I've long worried that he is a classic impact player that you see in rugby union, bursting through and making yards, but too often doesn't pick the right option when he breaks the lines.

Keita certainly lacks Chamberlain's power and physicality, but he's got a more assured touch and can take and give the ball with a more calm and collected mien, however I'm far from convinced about him either.

I agree Fabs has looked a bit rusty. Hope it is the same as we saw with Gomez when he came back and used a bit of time to adjust again.

It will be the same team as West Ham given the options we have. Still need more from origi and the ox

I'd like to see Fabinho and Keita start, Fabinho in particular has looked a bit rusty when he has played since being back, and needs game time with the first eleven to get back to form. Keita playing means we can give Wijnaldum a rest, and he looked great before his injury.

The prodigal son returns. Danny Ings has been great for the Saints, but at Anfield against the reds he's going to have to feed off scraps. Hope he doesn't have a good day at the office, but fills his boots thereafter.

Its a strange feeling but the confidence Becker and VVD instill in me and to an extent the rest of the defense as me in this weird and unprecedented head space where however nervous i am , i dont expect any striker to score against us, we've rode our luck at times this season but predominantly its been a case of VVD and co shuting eveyone down , a team may get 1-2 chances per match but they have to convert or face certain defeat, the pressure must be insane.

We saw that againt Wolves where even Traore didnt want to take VVD on, the absolutely absurd moment against West Ham, where Snodgrass looked certain to be able to shoot but Virg just ushered him across the whole of the penalty area and out wide like it was a defensive training session, then they get a chance and the keeper just makes a crazy save look like his bread and butter.
Similarly , Gomez gobbing up the Earth infront of him to shut down a 1v1 opportunity and jog off like it was again, a training match

Martial a few weeks back, through on goal, 6 or so yards out - skies it. Players and teams cannot afford poor conversion of opportunities against this side as the stats prove, we will score

It honestly feels like a level of intimidation similar to that Barca displayed 5/6 years back - extraordinary physical feats like those of traore or simply being a world class forward / great team seem like the only way goals are going to be scored against us with any frequency

Also....The scenes if we win tomorrow and City drop points on sunday at Spurs..

That was amazing. He just casually brought him over towards the touchline with minimal effort or fuss.
