Of course we could've, unless you play a perfect game then the team you're playing against will always have chances of their own....that might come when the game's at 0-0 or when you're 3 up. We could've done better in moments defensively but if you want to use the 2 examples you've chosen to, I think both times we lost the ball in our own half so Mac and Mo just need to do better to hold onto it or buy a foul or something.

Add to Bowen's goal, which was right smack in the middle of the box as well, that was 3. At least for Bowen's, Virgil was close enough to put in some sort of a challenge. For the other 2 headers, no one was even close.

Watch it again. Gomez should have been all over Antonio for that header. He started off 4-5m behind him but, by ball watching instead of checking on Antonio's position he literally ran right bloody past him by 3-5m ... thereby giving him a free header !

That only shows the 5 seconds from the time Soucek receives the ball, has seemingly forever to turn and pick out a cross but whatever and then yes the final catalogue of errors is Gomez losing his man & ideally Ali would be giving a shout to Joe to check his over his shoulder.

I'm more interested in where the turnover of possession is, about 10-15 seconds earlier.

It's pretty simple without going into a conniption trying to find an excuse for him, if he's got time to close down that 5m gap, which he did, then he shouldn't have run past him. He did because he was ball-watching (watch the clip and this time watch Gomez and where he's looking).

Exactly so the team is to blame, we can’t just blame Gomez or Matip or any one player for conceding a chance/goal. Mac is to blame for losing it, Robbo to blame for playing everyone onside and Gomez to blame for his mind being on the moon. The game as a whole though, Robbo was easily the worst player on the pitch, no getting away from that.

That is the cause - it doesn't let Gomez off the hook for ball watching (a constant habit of his) and giving Antonio a free header though.

You can't casually discount Becker's save as if it was luck or something.

When you break the world record transfer fee for a goalie, that goalie bailing you out like that on a regular basis is expected, it's a part of the plan.

That kind of thing gets to be a habit after a while. When that happens, some folks are more comfortable persisting with it than taking notice of what's actually happening out there. Curtis is possibly the most improved player in the squad.
