Im think this is how I think it will go.

1 friedel

3Enrique
4 Dann
And finally 2 marquee signings
1 Friedel I'm fine with. He's a sub, he'll play like 2 games a year. No bother, that's cool. Why at his age he's happy to not be playing I don't know, but that's another discussion.

2 Fuck off Stewart Downing. A mediocre bullshit signing which we've been making for years and years and bastard years. Which is why we sit in 6th place. Are any of the teams above us interested in this puberty-awaiting-looking cunt? No, they're not, cos he's balls deep average. Here's what'll happen; we'll sign this cunt for whatever amount of money, and within minutes we'll have all sorts of threads containing chopped down youtube videos, excerpts from Aston Villa fans on other forums telling us he really is that good, and then a cumfull of excitement when he makes a semi-decent debut against Bayer Howsyerma in July or something. Come December not one of us will have him in our team, come next summer we'll be in the market for a replacement for this joe average cunt. Fucking shit ordinary bollocks signing.

3 is 2 with Jose Enrique's name in place of Stweart Downing.

4 Means we can't afford Roger Johnson.

Marquees - THERE FUCKING BETTER BE.

Thanks Mark by the way.

Yep that about sums it up!

The worrying signs are people using a potential Carrol & Downing relationship as reason to sign. Has everyone forgotten that Kelly can whip a fine cross in?
Need more than full backs offering good crosses.

Plus Kelly won't be fit all next season, he has always struggled with injuries through out his time at Liverpool. That's why I'd like to see him at centre back sooner rather than later, so he has less running and chance of hamstrings injuries, which was the last one he got.

Are Downing, Friedel, Jose Enrique and Scott Dann going to help us win the League?
Yes because they are better than Jovanovic, Jones, Konchesky and Soto. Therefore our bench is far stronger.

The two marquee signings will help strengthen the first team.

Precisely. We have to start somewhere.

We have to assume Aurelio and Agger are always injured. If they are fit it is a bonus.

So we can have the following team:

--------------------------------Reina------------------------------------

Kelly-----------Carragher-------------Skrtel--------------Johnson

-----------Meireles-----------Alonso*-----------Gerrard------------

-------------Aguero*-----------Carroll------------Suarez--------------

* - Two examples for marquee signings.

Now that is just one example of formation.

But the bench and options will have Friedel, Lucas, Flanagan, Dann, Enrique, Spearing, Shelvey, Kuyt, Downing.

That's without mentioning the two crocks Agger / Aurelio and whether we keep Maxi etc. Not forgetting the other kids with have.

I'd say that is significantly stronger.

None of the four you mentioned would make our bench anyway.

We have a fucking squadful of average-good players. If trophies were handed out for the most amount of samey bullshit, our trophy room would need to be extended. We need less of the mediocre junk and more world class players.

Last summer we bought Poulsen, Konchesky, Cole, Jones, etc - "all great quality for the bench which will improve our squad!". In January we signed Suarez and he's better than that other 4 or 5 put togethor. World class makes a difference, not half a dozen junkyard dogs.

Downing for starters is better than any wide player we currently have at the club.

Friedel is a better keeper than Jones.

Dann is highly rated and should be better than Soto.

Not sure about Enrique, so I'll give you him, but he can't be worse than Konchesky.

We will sign a couple of marquee players that can significantly improve the first team. But it is unrealistic to expect four or five marquee signings and I also don't think it is needed.
Although i Agree totally with Ryans post, you make a valid point. Of course these 4 improve upon those 4 but at what cost? 25 to 30 Million for that lot to potentially improve the reserves isnt really where we should be focusing.
30m could get us a top class player like Hazard, Benzema, Defour etc to really improve the team.
I dont want us be 'ok' with wasting 30m because we sign some other good players.
Its a waste of money. Especially Downing.

Anyone who thinks different is seriously deluding himself.

i can only think the marquee signings would be a left back and a left winger/fwd.

Carroll and Suarez cost way too much to be replaced - We have several central mid's and Spearing just signed an extention...

We might see some rather unexpected departures this season...

Didnt Kenny say something about using the kids as our squad players and all the money would be spent on first teamers?

That's not how it looks though. Unless these mongs are actually being bought for the first team. Which would be the most depressing thing ever.

Im wondering if any of you have seen Dann or Enrique this season, both have been great at times, more so Dann but i'd still be happy with Enrique.

Dann and Enrique are the ones which depress me even more than Downing tbh. I can somehow accept Downing if he came in as a replacement for Maxi and Cole. And if we're signing another top class winger.

But Enrique and Dann are extremely unconvincing buys for two absolutely crucial positions. Enrique's had one good season in the PL and one really shit one. Chances are he may find himself out of his depth at a higher level. At the very best, he might do an Arbeloa. Here's hoping. But I really hoped we would sort out LB with a player who'd make the position his own for the next 5-6 years.

As for Dann, he won't even replace Skrtel from the first team. That defeats the very purpose of signing a new CB.

Bitterly disappointed.

I don't think we'll be buying any world class players this summer.
Early signs seem to indicate that we're going after 2nd rate players like Downing, Adam etc.

We'll see what happens but I'm afraid it's gonna be like every other summer. Average players join, we get excited and expect them to perform above their level and later on we're back on square one again expecting to sell half the squad.

Where's that graph Scum fans keep posting?
Do one, you miserable bastard.

The New owners have done nothing/said nothing so far to suggest that we won't be going for anything other than top class players.

So lets just wait and see before we go into meltdown, yeah?

I really like this idea. 2 top quality players e.g. Aguero (won't come to us) and for argument's sake Hazard (won't come to us) and our team is transformed.

1. Kelly, Flanagan, Robinson & Spearing have already proven their worth .. there will be more from the reserves / youth.
2. Frield is free, quality and strengthens our bench - Pepe had an injury free season, won't be like that every year.
3. I certainly wouldn't say no it Adam for 5M to strengthen our MF options ... but if Aquilani comes back then we don't need him, one or the other. Adam is more likely.
4. I'd like to see us off-load Agger - good player but as injury prone as Aurelio.
5. Skrtel finished the season strongly but I'm not convinced. Cahill maybe.
6. Lucas was our player of the season but many are discarding him ? Not going to happen.
7. A marquee signing that is not a winger causes a problem for the balance of the team (see below). Aguero would be fantastic ... but we'd still be relying on our FBs for width.
8. With 3 quality MFs I don't think we need a DM (Lucas is not a DM).

--------------------------------Reina------------------------------------

Kelly-----------Carragher-------------Cahill--------------Johnson

--------------------------------Lucas

------------------Gerrard ---------------------Meireles

--------Aguero (Suarez) --------------------------Suarez (Hazard)

------------------------------Carroll

Friedl, Gulacsi
Skrtel, Kyrgiakos, Coady, Ayala, Wisdom, Kelly (see above)
Aurelio, Flanagan, Wilson
Adam, Spearing, Shelvey, Maxi, Sterling, Ince
Kuyt, (New), Pacheco, Suso

OUT : Aquilani, Jones, Insua, Konchesky, Agger, Cole, Jovanovic, Poulsen, N'Gog.

I read that Brun fans think Dann is a better player than Johnson.
I don't know any Birmingham fans that think Dann is the better of the 2 and I know a fair few Brummies. Also if you look at their forums they all think Johnson is the better player BUT some suggest selling Johnson and keeping Dann based on the fact they'd be happy with £7m for the 28 year old whilst keeping the 24 year old.

Johnson is the better player although in fairness it's difficult to make a direct comparison because Johnson is a no-nonsense type CB in the vidic mould whereas Dann is more of an Agger type. And talking of Agger, Dann's injury record would be another major concern as he has suffered injury-hit seasons in the last 3 years.

I wouldn't mind us signing Johnson but at 28 I'm not as keen on signing him as I was a couple of seasons ago. The Arse should go for him.

I got it off Football365 Pesam. Some fan was doing a review of the season and wanted to keep Dann over Johnson. Am pretty ambivalent about both of them though.

I agree, there's not many, but a few Brum fans want to sell Johnson and keep Dann but as I mentioned that's based on getting £7m for a 28 year old.

This thread makes for depressing reading.

Kenny, give us those edge of our seat signings or we simply get left behind and top 4 becomes nothing but a mirage.

According to wiki dann used to have a season ticket with us

Didn't realise he was only 24 too

The worry is that the noises out of the club are 'Only if we need a player' but the rumour mill has us spending 200m
In reality unless there are significant outtages
Aquilani
Cole
Ngog
Konchesky
Jovanovic
Agger
etc
We just cant afford to bring in these players who command 120k a week.
I would think that IF we can ship out all the shit we would need a
LB - So the long standing Enrique deal looks most likely
CB - I think at 8m Dann is a far MORE LIKELY signing than the 15-20m Cahill
CM - Im not sure if we do need a CM anymore.
LW - This was the one i was really hopeful of a top signing so Downing would represent a very dissappointing result.

The choices that most noise is being made about are depressingly likely.
I just cant see us spending 30m bolstering the squad and then 80m on two superstars. Especially with no European football next year. We already declared a loss this year. So where does the 80m shortfal come from (not to mention the 10m a year in extra wages)
Im begining to think the Danns, Adams, Friedals, Downings are the reality.
The dream of Hazard, Aguero, Benzema etc all seems so very very implausible.

Before anyone mentions the 50m for Suarez and Carroll, that was totally funded by the sales of Torres and Babel and as such not much of an investment risk.

I wont be angry if these suggested big name players dont come, because realistically i know that we cant afford them in our 44k seater stadium but i will be just utterly deflated as it would instantly show me just how far we are from the top.
