it completely depends on who those two players are, if we get 2 great players and improve the rest of our squad a little bit, which is what will happen bringing in downing and co, then i think we'll have a team that can finish top 4, no way will we challenge for the title though, not with chavski and city spending big, and arsenal will probably get at least one big money player in just so wenger can prove he's not a total fanny when it comes to spending money

I don't care what the other clubs do.

If we get two players like Mata/ Aguero / Alonso / Hazard etc. Plus the ones Mark said, then we can win the league.

Dalglish has turned water into wine with some of the players he has had available recently. Just imagine what he could do with that team / squad, as well as a fully fit Gerrard and Carroll.

Our rivals can spend what they want, but what is important is us getting the right players, not necessarily the most expensive ones. Someone like Downing for me is the right type of signing to bring the best out of Carroll.
 
The owners wanted to spend in january, we just didnt get anywhere with Young, Adam and Richards.

I cant see the panic really. If Marks list goes through then the first four players are very good squaddies/first teamers and then 2 marquee signings will push us close to the top.

The owners want to spend and win. Will they just buy mediocre players? Will they fuck.
Have some patience.

They already have Nani/Valencia/Park on the wings, and gagging order for backup, I don't see how much Young would improve them.

Downing is better at crossing and working for the team

i'd say they were equal personally, as one is stronger in some areas that t'other, and the reverse is true.

Downing is just unfashionable however, so people don't rate him

I'd prefer Downing myself. Don't think there's much between them and there's better out there..

true, we're snails, but hopefully we'll get another player who can inject pace. Then again depending how we play, we may not need pace, rather players who are quick of thought

Having a quick LB like Enrique paired up with Downing is a bit exciting, on paper at least.
Add a world class striker like Aguero and we'll definitely be contenders next season.

I like enrique and hope we get him, but not for the stupid money touted. Young, solid LB with an eye for a pass mixed with an experienced LW with intelligent movement and a cracking cross.

Could feed carroll tons of goal scoring chances

I believe Enrique was a promising sprinter so deffo has pace.

I presumed Downing will be going for closer to 10-12million??

Young will go for 12-15million due to the lenght of his contract??

Because they won't be sold for that much difference. I reckon Downing ~£12m and Young ~£15/16m
