Selliott

I like the kid but I'd be surprised if Harvey becomes a regular over there, his best hope is someone moving in for Rogers.

The competition for him is tough......Rogers, Mcginn, Tielemans, Malen, Guessand. Emery has used all these players at some point either as #10s or out wide & Mcginn is basically viewed as their Milner.

I'm not so sure. Tielemans can be streaky and Malen and Guessand haven't been there very long. I reckon he has a decent chance.

He'll end up facing the same problems he did here as he will there, Villa are a big, physical bruising side in their own right. Palace or Leipzig would've made more sense.

If they have to sign him, why isn't it a sale now, with a delayed payment. Have to guess there is some reason for this, that's either an advantage to us or them.
We get two matches where he isn't allowed to play against us 🙂

I get they have to sign him, but does the obligation extend to us as well? Let's say he has a stellar season for Villa and Wirtz doesn't work out for us - can we recall him at the end of the season and not sell him after all?

Probably PSR knowing villa. Delays the payment and it's a fraction of the wages.

PSR for us, too. We're good for the next couple years but then we start to have issues due to the Isak signing, as @Beamrider illustrated a couple weeks back.

Pushing the sale into next year stretches our window of compliance into the future instead of having a larger surplus of room now.

This is correct, but I think the accounting treatment from our side may be a mismatch with Villa's - i.e. it's possible that we will still have to record the sale now. I think we can potentially get around it with options - i.e. Villa have an option to buy and we have an option to sell. That way, the sale isn't technically guaranteed to go through (if neither side exercises their option then it doesn't happen) but practically it will happen as one of the parties will definitely exercise. But I think you can then argue for accounts purposes that you don't recognise the sale / purchase until the option is exercised (so next year, not immediately).
I'm trying to remember who it was, but I'm sure there was someone we loaned out with an obligation to buy where we DID recognise the sale immediately. Might have been Danny Ings.
In any event, Villa will be trying to avoid the amortisation hitting their books this year to balance their trading for UEFA settlement purposes.

Usually with our loan deals we factor in additional loan fees if the player doesn't play regularly, so as to incentivise the borrowing club to give them the experience. I'd expect we'll have done that here. So if they don't play him to avoid triggering the buy obligation then there's a good chance they'll end up paying a higher loan fee (although there doesn't seem to have been mention of a loan fee).

Everyone knows my feelings on Elliott. He's a talented lad, loves the club, clearly has a lot to offer, but arguably hasn't broken through as much as he should have, if partly due to playing in mismatch teams in cups, but whatever. It's six of one, half a dozen of the other.

I don't mind Villa or Emery, so it's a nice place for him to go and hopefully make a name for himself. Not even for selfish reasons of wanting him to come back, I just want to see him enjoy himself and play some good football. He could go there and be every bit the success that Grealish was, I hope he does for his sake and for that of his family who have supported him massively during his career.

It's a shame, as I think he's a much more talented player than Jones and he's versatile enough to cover a number of positions across the team. I guess we'll now see just how much his talent can show through and how consistent he can be when needed every week.

Hopefully he gives a big 'fuck you' to all of the naysayers on here who wrote him off early for dumb ass reasons about his physique and whatever other shitty bias.

Most have nothing but good things to say about him. He couldn't break into the first team despite being here for years. That's on him / Slot. He wishes to play, good on him. He won't get many games here, we have seen as much.

His mate Fabio left, and is struggling for game time as well. We shall see what he's made of.

A bit of a difference to the Newcastle Isak statement...

"When I joined Liverpool in 2019 it was a dream come true for me and my family. As a young child, I travelled the world supporting the team as a fan and words will never be able to explain the feeling I had when I pulled on that famous red shirt for the first time as a player.

"Over the course of the last six years I've experienced so much and grown from a young 16-year-old boy into a man during my time at the club. Growing up, I could never have imagined that I'd go on to play 150 games for my boyhood team, winning seven major trophies and culminating in being part of the squad to have won the Premier League last season with such a special group.

"Thank you to everybody at the club for welcoming me from the very first day I arrived, and for looking after me ever since.

"Thank you to the board and Jurgen Klopp for helping me live my dream of becoming a Liverpool player. To Arne Slot, all of the coaches and staff who have helped me along the way and, of course, my team-mates - it's been a privilege to play with you all and I feel lucky to have made so many lifelong friends.

"To the incredible Liverpool fans. Thank you for making me one of your own and for always supporting me through both good and tough times. I'll always cherish the bond we have together. I will always have Liverpool in my heart.

"It's now time for a new challenge. I am incredibly ambitious and feel that at this stage of my career, it's important to be in an environment where I'm able to have the opportunity to play and progress as much as possible.

"Thank you all for everything. See you soon! YNWA"

I wish him all the very best, he’s an honest lad - who clearly has talent, the England under 21 tournament this summer, he really shone.

The age that he is now, he deserves to be playing top level football regularly. This would not have been an easy decision for him, as he’s a self confessed Liverpool fan. But it shows his maturity, in the way he’s handled this decision, along with the club.

I’m a little gutted, as I don’t think he’s a million miles off offering the squad what Wirtz brings, at least certainly so far…Harvey is exceptionally talented and hardworking. From a selfish point of view, I’d have to loved to have kept him around this season….if there is a particular system Slot envisages a 8/10 creative role within his set up, well Harvey for me is second to Wirtz in that pecking order.

Wish him all the best, and hope his career kicks on, the lad if playing and performing weekly could bag himself a place in the World Cup squad.

Yes, I said previously that I thought that accommodating Wirtz would show us how we should be playing Elliot, but it looks like we're not going to see that, or at least not this season.
