Like Diaz, who we have publically said we aren't renewing, and are fine to keep, (because he's on low wages.)
It can cause heartache, I'm not disputing that, but it's the claim someone has done something wrong, simultaneous to the expectation that for the other side of things, as far as Liverpool negotiate things, it's business, strictly business.
Likewise, for supporters, the romance is conditional on the players being useful. We are more like DiCaprio, cynically dumping everyone when they're old and we are bored of them, than we are a serial monogamist seeking abiding love.
Dig the Leo comparison, actually... Well played.
🙂
As a fan, who loves this club second only to my kids and some of my family, I'll say two things, before leaving it, 'coz we've all gone around on this a dozen times by now:
Firstly. when you get into professional football, you do so with eyes open and you know the risks (just like dating Mr. DiCaprio, I would imagine). This business loves you when you're easy to love and then moves on, when you're past your best - It's cutthroat, yes, but it also affords you (the young, wide-eyed starlet) a life of fame and luxury that will last until the day you die. This might be a bit old-manish of me, but I'm never gonna feel sorry for somebody who's earning 15.6m GBP for 5 years of kicking a football.
Secondly, Trent has done absolutely nothing wrong... He's entitled to do what he wants with his career and his life. Of course that's fair.
But we fans are equally entitled to feel how we feel about it. I choose to feel lied to (he's known he would leave for two years now), disappointed and disgusted by the attitude and (lack of) effort that we've seen since then. He's let us and himself down, in my opinion... Doesn't mean I wish him a terrible life or a career ending injury, of course - That's sick. But I don't particularly wish him professional success, either.
Nor did I with that bellend Owen, McMoneyman, Coutinho or Henderson. I expected better from all of them, because they felt different while they were here. Sadly, it turns out, they weren't.
Neither is Trent. And he should be. THAT'S the point.
