So, Luis to Barca.....

Gonna be a huge ask to replace him. Origi, Lallana et al are gonna fall way short. None of the other players makes being linked aren't getting the juices flowing, so to speak.

Such a shame about Sanchez. He'd have been quality.

We probably know about 20% of the players we're looking at. There will be a few positive surprises imho.
Origi, Lallana, Markovic arent a Suarez replacement anyway.

Hopefully. Still, we like to do business early and there aren't any big names being linked right now.

Even Sanchez isn't in Suarez' class. I doubt we're even trying to replace Suarez directly, because it's just not possible. Provided we get this right, though, the end result should be a stronger squad overall.

But he'd have the potential to become a world class player because he's already very very good.
A front line of Sturridge, Lambert & Borini (prob gonna be sold) isn't enough. We do need to buy a top class striker to replace Suarez even if he won't be as good because we need to replace those 31 goals or it's back to 6/7 we go!

We will likely quote a high fee to appease our fans, while Barcelona will do the contrary to appease theirs. I'd say they've paid around 50-60 up front, then the rest will be added on through various clauses that we'll likely get.

I think we are looking too much into this Suarez leaving and we will fall apart. If anything while he was out of the team - we looked more solid as a unit even though we may not have created too many chances. I think we will be OK, and the team may feel that everyone is on an equal footing and be even more balanced than it was last year. If you think back to the big matches we have had - it has been the other players like Sterling, Coutinho who have stepped up - like the games against City etc. What worries me is that we may lack strength in the centre as I am not sure that our midfielders are too good at ball winning, but creative they will be.

this talk of suarez delaying the suspension by appealing to CAS . Why do FIFA even care what CAS think ? Ok they are a court but what would happen if FIFA told them to get fucked ?

"Decisions of CAS can be appealed to the Swiss Federal Tribunal " ...as if they'd ever do anything to FIFA .

Fuck just the goals, I'm worried about replacing the hundred how the hell did he do that moments that make football fun. I don't think there is a chance in hell that we are as productive this season.

Liverpool are a great development and selling/feeder club for the Spanish duo that is Real and Barca. While we have made tons of loot from selling our players to them, I always feels like we get the short end of the stick. Bastards!!

Its also a great compliment and reference point to/for us when chasing the next generation of superstars. They only have to look at our track record of developing players who go on to greater things.

[article]Liverpool FC confirms that Luis Suarez will be leaving the club after a transfer agreement was reached with FC Barcelona. The player now has permission to complete the usual formalities, which will then conclude the transfer.

We would like to thank Luis for his contribution and the role he played in helping bring Champions League football back to Anfield.

Everyone at Liverpool Football Club wishes Luis and his family well for the future.[/article]

[article]Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers today issued the below statement following the announcement that an agreement has been reached with Barcelona for Luis Suarez to leave the club.

"Luis is a very special talent and I thank him for the role he has played in the team in the past two years, during my time at Liverpool.

"I think he would be the first to accept he has improved as a player over that period, along with the team and has benefited from being here, as we have benefited from him.

"The club have done all they can over a sustained period of time to try to keep Luis at Liverpool. It is with great reluctance and following lengthy discussions we have eventually agreed to his wishes to move to Spain for new experiences and challenges. We wish him and his young family well; we will always consider them to be friends.

"We are focused on the future, as we strive to continue with the progress we have made and build on last season's excellent Barclays Premier League campaign.

"I am confident we will improve the team further and will be stronger for this coming season, when we will be competing on all fronts; domestically and in the greatest club competition in the world, the Champions League.

"If there is one thing the history of this great club teaches us, it is that Liverpool FC is bigger than any individual. I hope our supporters continue to dream and believe that we are moving forward and with continued improvement and progression, together we will bring the success we all crave and deserve."[/article]

Because FIFA is incorporated in Switzerland.

The club may well improve as a result from the money from Luis' departure, but that's far from a given and the risk is huge. One of the best players in the world is leaving Anfield with no obvious replacement to replicate his genius.

Like or hate Luis Suarez, this is a shit day for the club.

We won't improve initially. The squad depth issue will get better, but we will miss his quality. We'll see in the long term how our young players and signings develop.

we don't seem to be in any better position to make the right kind of signings though.

We won't be signing any top level players that's for sure. Sanchez was our best hope of that. Players will have wanted to come here and play with Suarez. In any case, we will have to sign young players and hope they develop into top level stars. I see us hopefully being in the same bracket as Atletico, Dortmund, Porto and Benfica - The rung below the top tier from which it's harder to sign top class established talent.

I don't think we're in a position to be doing that anyway. We're still as a squad short on numbers; I think you can only really add top quality when you get into a position where you only need 1-2 reinforcements in a summer. Either that or you have extremely rich owners. Established stars often need things to fit around them and we're still building a squad and evolving our way of playing. As much as I'd like a James Rodriguez, someone of that ilk is more likely to imbalance the side than someone not quite as established.

Good post this.
