okay its a bit early to start thinking about the winter transfer window really, but after dramatically improving our squad what positions do you think need furthur improvement?

I for one think another centre back wouldnt be too bad, cahill maybe? we seem to be sorted for strikers at the moment, i do think we need an attacking mid after the loss of ming, henderson looks like he'll be used on the right, adam's always gna play deep, shelvey hasnt seen much action lately (although i rate him pretty highely), so we've basically just got gerrard for that role, and his fitness levels dont seem comletely reliable at this point.

another position i wouldnt mind is a right winger, maxis a bit too hit and miss to be consistently playing on the right and henderson looked pretty shit at times, when he's looked decent its because he hasnt stayed on the right, put him in the centre maybe? thats up to kenny anyways?

either way im looking forward to signing some exciting players and expecting a transfer request at about half 11

An AM.
Thats it.
And we dont even need that if Gerrard stays fit.
[/quote]

we cant expect him to play every game though, although i guess we could just set up without one when he doesnt play. are you completely satisfied with the right wing though?

summer should be good, champions can buy anyone

yep, i think cahill's a bit of a no brainer with his contract running down, so i'd like to see us in for him.

otherwise i think we need another right winger and a striker, but not til the summer. i want us to go all out for hazard as the winger, not sure about the striker - a lot will depend on how carroll comes on this season. ideally we'd go for a young and relatively cheap backup, but if carroll's still struggling then i guess we're going to have to consider whether it might be better to cut our losses and buy a proper replacement for torres.

This is a bit like asking "who's the new deadwood?"

Anyway, I reckon Kuyt may leave in January (if we get offered 4 or 5 million) or next summer and we'll be looking at getting in a younger right winger and a younger striker. Bellamy is a stop gap of course but his arrival will free up Suarez to play more on the right side of the attack than he has so far this season.

Skrtel will be moved on sooner rather than later, perhaps even as soon as January to Spurs if they can stomach doing business wth DC. Watch out for us being linked with another centre half in the next window or two.

I can also see Johnson being sold before next season starts but the biggest shock will the year after when we offload Suarez and Lucas in the same window (for shedloads of moolah).

Eh? How have you come to that conclusion?

He hould still be our 3rd choice centre back in my view. At the very least. Skrtel's a good player.

Last night I sneaked into the Dalglish household and posed as the family ironing board. While Marina was presing Kenny's shirts against my arched back, I heard him telling her that Skrtel isn't good enough at centre half.

Yeah, it's not like he played in every minute of every match under Kenny last season. (in the League)

I wanted to raise that myself Gary but I was in disguise and didn't want to startle poor Marina.

Haha. apart from Brad Jones perhaps, i don't think any deadwood exists at LFC which is just marvellous.

Implying that Skrtel and Kuyt fall into the deadwood category - jokingly or not is a little bit insulting to players that have served us brilliantly over the years.

I don't think they're deadwood, sorry if I gave that impression. I like them both a lot.

I agree we don't really have 'deadwood' at this point because deadwood is really players that are drawing a salary, taking up space and will never get a game.

However, I think the club may be ever vigilant for players who are better than what we have now, that's why I think Kuyt and Skrtel may be on their way in the next 12 months.

To me the bolded bit is a contradiction in terms. You'd be moving Suarez from the free role he has now into a more restricted one and IMO that would be a backward step, one which our opponents would welcome. Don't "fix" what ain't broke.

Fair enough. A lot can happen in 12 months though so lets cross that bridge when we come to it. No harm in looking to the future but i just think Skrtel and Kuyt still have a lot to offer us for a few years yet. I know Kuyt's 31 but i can see him staying with us until the end of his contract - 2 more seasons i think?
As for Skrtel, i still think he'll get games this season.

I don't think he has a free role right now Jules, I don't think anyone does. Just because he moves about that doesn't mean he has a free role.

What we saw against Bolton was Downing dragging the full back out of position and Suarez moving over to the left, dragging the centre half with him and leaving space for team mates to run into (including Downing himself). Kuyt and others tried the same on the right. I reckon when we see Bellamy in the team, we'll see him performing the role Suarez did against Bolton (mainly dropping deep to the left) and Suarez spending more time in the parts of the pitch we saw Kuyt.

January is not a good market. Unless something unforeseen happens like Suarez handing in a transfer request, we should keep our powder dry till Summer.

That depends. For example Cahill's contract runs out next summer so he should be available for a reduced fee.

I think we'll sign a CM in January. I'm hoping for Javi Martinez.

Hard to tell, if all the new lads settle in well and everyone is fit , then maybe no one, which is a pretty strange place to be.

You never know though, a Suarez like player may be available then.

Shouldn't we always be trying to improve mate?

Yeah, of course, if there's someone that is going to improve us, we should be looking at them. But what I mean is that for a long time we've been looking for a centre back, a left back, a winger, and a striker willing to spend most of his time on the bench. And our squad is relatively young too.

Finally there's no position that we're obviously short in. We can still improve, but we're now, hopefully, in a position where we can pick and choose, and not be too bothered if we don't get anyone.

Again, that's assuming everyone settles in as well as we hope.

Ahhh i get you now.

Maybe i'm greedy but if at all possible i'd love for us to make another big splash in the transfer market in January. If we could land 1-2 players who could add the finishing touches, we could go into the new season with a complete squad who are ready to hit the ground running.

We need another 'wow' attacking player a la Suarez. That much is obvious. And he'll probably want to be a wide man.

Other than that, we could do with a powerful midfielder and another striker (would be nice if he was a wow signing too).

We don't need anything at the moment based on the fact that we've filled every position that we as fans said we needed to fill and we've cleared out the deadwood too. Any signings in January will be heavily based on how the squad functions between now and then. Not saying we don't need world class players to improve where we're going but I think as a unit with the squad, we really couldn't of asked for a better summer

I don't think that is going to happen in jan and may not happen in the summer unless we are in the CL (all due respect to oncy's list)
